Default Question about Long Tubes...

Is there a FAQ about them? Which ones should I buy? I have the Borla Stingers (which I love). The only reason I would want headers is for more Horsepower. The volume (sound) of my exhaust is perfect now. What is the difference between coated and non coated- is there different types of coating? What about race collector vs non-race collector??
What does this mean? Also, I thought if you went with long tubes you don't use cats- is this true? I just saw SLP selling longtubes that did use cats. All answers are appreciated. Thx.

I am not sure if there is a FAQ area for headers on the forum. I am willing to take a chance here and tell you what I believe to be true maybe then everyone will jump in to correct me and you might get some good answers.

-I am not sure you will get too much more horsepower from just the headers compared to the cost plus installation cost.

-The sound of your current exhaust may change and may become somewhat deeper toned than it is now.

-Coating is used on the headers to help prevent heat from escaping from them

-I am only aware of ceramic coating but there may be others

-I am not sure about race collector vs non-race collector. I would add that headers for the C% come in different diameters, 1 5/8, 1 3/4 and 1 7/8 that I know of. I also know that depending on your engine modifications you have to be careful which diameter to choose as bigger is not always better.

-As far as cats vs no cats with headers I believe what you are referring to really are PRECATS which are found on model year 2000 - 2003. These years actually have two sets of catalytic converters, one of which is removed to make room for the LT Headers.

I hope this helps!

Chuck

Ahhhh...Headers huh?:D Nice choice for the next mod :yesnod:

I Installed the TPIS headers and their is NO collector to speak of. You can have the collector welded on or just weld without it. You should pick up a minimum of 15 RWHP with a decent set of LT headers...I realized about 22 with my setup. Many of the LT's out there don't provide for the precats but if your concerned you can onstall hi flow cats from Random technologies..I just eleminated them all to gether . In Florida ..no problem for now! The ceramic jet coating will maintain the lustre and shine for a while and the coating also prevents heat from escaping. Definately the best mod to get the most out of the engine as is..:D

Check out my home page for pics of the TPIS header install and finshed exhaust..Good Luck!!

Headers will definitly changer your exhaust note. Will make it deeper since you are making the exhaust more free flowing (no pup-cats)

You only have 1 set of Cats on your 99. Installing LT Headers on your car means the OEM Cats stay where they are. :yesnod:

Yup...I am looking at Long Tubes. The real reason is that I bought an extended warranty and do not want to void it. Otherwise I would definitely be doing a cam and maybe heads. I will probably do this mod within the next few months- it is not right around the corner (sorry Brad). The good news is my buddy just purchased a CRAZY dyno from New Zealand for his Speed sport tuning shop in Connecticut. When I do install the long tubes we will know exactly how much power I gained. This is supposed to be THE dyno to have and better than 99% of the dynos out on the market today. Thanks for all the replies- if anyone has any more info, please post.
