Default clutch

Thanks for the opportunity to post in this forum. I bought a 2001 Z06 last summer. the car had 78000 miles at that time. It now has 79000. the car has issues. the worst of which is have to practically push the clutch pedal through the firewall to make smooth *****. I might add the care has a short throw shifter. The clutch doesn't slip or chatter. What are the indicators for replacement. I also have a whine which I'm not sure is coming from the transmission or dif. It gets louder with speed.

First... welcome to the forum you have come to the right place... read the stickies at the top of the forums...

I found that shifting issues in the C5 are many little things that add up to a very notchy crappy shifting car not just the clutch...that said here is what I have done to make our car shift like budda...

Anti-Venom mod... it is simply adding a washer to the detent and it works.

Trans fluid changed to Amsoil Torque Drive

Multiple Modified Ranger Method Clutch fluid cleaning...

Switched to Lucas Full Synthetic DOT 4 fluid...

Upgraded to a C6 Z06 shifter...

Neutral/ shift rod adjustments might need to be made...

After doing ALL these things our car shifts VERY nicely...

thanks for the reply. I recently changed all fluids including clutch. I'm not really thrilled with the short throw shifter. I'm just not sure how long a clutch lasts on a c5. The previous owner made some simple changes to the car which can be undone.

Depends on how much abuse the clutch is given... I'd say the clutch can last a LONG time and MANY MANY miles if taken care of... and depends on where it's driven... Urban heavy stop and go... weekend country cruising... in the mountains or on flat terrain...LOTS of dynamics involved.
Depending on what aftermarket shifter you have... if it's a Hinson, MGW you will have NO trouble getting rid of it for something you like better.

the car goes in to a local corvette shop on wednesday . In addition to the shifting issue, they are checking the whine in either in trans or diff to plus a variety of little gremlins that have popped up. I'm getting the service traction control and abs light intermittantly and the horn quit on me.

NOT a good idea... just sayin
You need to pull your codes and post them... at the very least get a handle on what they are going to tell you is wrong and how much your going to get bent over...you need KNOWLEDGE to protect yourself, or you may wind up paying more in repairs than you did to buy the car...
The CLUTCH job is one that they BETTER know what the heck they are doing or you will be on the forum frantically trying to figure out why your car vibrates and after spending $3000 it still doesn't work right... then Bill Curlee will post some really cool stuff about what they didn't do right and try to help you figure out how to get it fixed...JUST a word of caution, just because it says CORVETTE on the door of the shop you BEST know exactly what you are getting into...

just going for opinions. the care is self healing that is, the code goes away when you turn the key off and start again. that's not right. it's one of the best shops in town and highly trusted. nobody turns a wrench until i can say for sure what the problem is. the other option is a chevy dealer. not a good one for me.

Normally things DON"T fix themselves... IF your getting codes, resetting them and they KEEP reoccurring then you HAVE a problem...POST your CODES here...
Clear them... then go for a drive and PULL the CODES BEFORE you kill the engine... then post them here

The car has a bad left rear wheel and pinion bearing. The codes translated to a wheel sensor and something in the steering column (pardon my lack of technical expertise) While it's apart i'm having the clutch and related items replaced. Thanks for the input.
