Default Suggestions on cam

2000 corvette 6 speed with 68,000 miles. Harmonic balancer went out so guy is charging me $500 in labor to do it and said for another $500 he would do cam install. So $1000 in labor for both jobs.

Question is my car is stock except muffler delete. What cam can I put into it and get results? I want the lope sound and power. What you guys suggests I should do?

IF you go the cam route... and you want sound and power... you'll need to go with long tube headers and get a tune...so, now the $1000 looks more like $2000 and then, and then,,,, Just sayin... the money isn't an issue for some folks.

Couple of questions. Is this the installed price or is it $1000 labor + parts? A cam new is about $400 or so. Replacement balancer $100-400 (depends on what you want). So you might be closer to $2K just getting started. And like 73Corvette said, you won't see nearly as much gain from the cam unless you do some LT headers (which is highly recommended by the way). A set of LT headers with X-pipe go anywhere from $400-ish (used) to low end new ($700-850) to high end new ($1800) then you have to add more labor to have those installed. Moving into the Mod world is fun but be prepared because its not cheap. There are different guys who search for bargains, others who will only use the best and brand new, and so on... You can do it in phases but the down side to that is that each mod will require you to re-tune your car and tuning ain't cheap! Best if possible to do it all at once. GL with your decision and please keep us updated. Sounds like you might be in for some new grins.

Don't forget $90 for push rods, $125 LS2 for timing chain set, another $140 for oil pump(why not while it's off but not necessary) ..and honestly should do trunion bearing upgrade to your rockers for another $140 while your at it.

But $500 for a cam install is pretty cheap, honestly Taking off the balancer isn't really a big deal job, Un bolting the rack power steering lines is the biggest PIA of the whole job, so you can slide the rack out of the way to get to the balancer. I'd replace balancers all day for $500 lol probably a 2 hour job tops.

I'd do it all day long for $495 and I'll throw in the loctite for free.
