Default Oil Leak

I have an oil leak on my '02 that's landing on the exhaust. Apparently it's a small leak (we all know small leaks lead to bugger leaks) not leaving any visible signs on garage floor but the dealership confirmed last week the oil is landing on exhaust and burning off-thus the odor.

The dealership added die in with my oil change last week and will check this week to determine where the leak is originating from (hopefully).

If it's the oil pan gasket what's the procedure to replace the gasket? Time consuming and expensive? The dealership hinted that the engine would have to be removed. Seems far fetched-cross member I would understand.

And should it be the gasket are there any other components like any sensors etc that I should replaced during this same gasket work?

66K on this '02. Feedback would be welcome-thanks in advance for response.

Maybe replace the oil pressure sending unit while they are in there doing gasket work? I'm new here, but that seems a common part to fail & then leak.

There is a GOOD chance the LEAK IS the OPS (oil pressure sensor) VERY COMMON problem
I would replace/relocate it and see if that was the leak before I let the stealership TOUCH it...
But then... I wouldn't let the stealership touch it anyway...

100% on the mark!! The oil most likely is coming from the up high on the back of the engine. The MOST COMMON source is the OIL PRESSURE SENSOR.

It splits where the metal (BRASS) body meets the plastic top of the sensor. Get a bright flashlight and an INSPECTION MIRROR and look at the area where the sensor screws into the block. If there is ANY oil there,,, that's most likely the problem.

I would definitely try the oil pressure sender first.

The oil pan gasket can be changed without removing the engine. You would have to either remove the cradle or just lower it for clearance to get the pan down. Either way the motor has to be supported from above while doing the job.

I removed my motor from the top for an oil leak and some other work and it was not too bad a job.

Good luck with your repair.
