Default ac pulley noise?

having trouble with ac belts breaking. had the belt off all winter and just put a new one back on the other day since it is getting hot again. upon starting car, heard some kind of clicking noise then goes away after a few minutes. did not hear it when belt was off all winter. i have heard this noise before. i am guessing the ac idler pulley or tension pulley. anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?
thanks so much in advance for your replies.

Bad pulleys usually don't break belts or heat them up. I would take a close look at the compressor when you inspect the pulleys. Does the ac work if the belt stays on?

the ac works perfectly fine. it makes the normal sounds it should such as clutch engaging, etc. thanks.

Just a FYI; mine was pumping cold air right up till the compressor seized. I to thought the noise at first was the pulley clutch was making the noise. No, just the compressor eating it self.

Mark.
