To bring this up to the top, after years of trouble-free operation, with nothing more than milling off the "detents" on the backside of the OE lock plate, I decided to place an order for an LMC5. I previously tried a "CLB", about 12-14 years ago, but that didn't work, and actually tried to lock up the column as I was pulling out of a parking spot. (and it was at that time that I modified the lock plate)

My original intention, however, when reading through this post, was to get an idea on how to do the brown wire mod. Since I don't have my LMC5 yet, as it won't arrive until tomorrow or Monday, I haven't been able to read the directions, hence I didn't know that the "brown wire mod" was part of the instruction sheet. It is NOT mentioned on the instructions that are posted on their website.

In preparation for installing the LMC5, I did e-mail Richard about how to do the "brown wire mod", and he essentially said not to do it, UNLESS I have an issue with the "pull key" message appears. His reasoning is that to avoid complications, do only what is necessary, and the "bwm" is not necessary on all cars. FWIW, in the 17 years I've owned my C-5, I'v never received the "pull key" error message.

Does work on 99 - 2004 C5's that start getting the "Pull Key ....." message after an LMC5 install.

If you decide not to do it when you do install the LMC5, then keep the instructions handy as you may well receive the "Pull key.................." message after installing it. You may begin getting the message right after the install or it may start a few weeks down the road or it may never (in your ownership of the car) occur. But there are plenty of C5's where the message does start occurring after an LMC5 install.
I found a fairly comprehensive video on YouTube, that detailed on how to install an LMC5 module. It didn't however, include performing the "brown wire mod". One thing the video did emphasize how little working room there is, down in the footwell. Seeing how simple it is to remove the seat, I'll probably do that first, as I'm a pretty big guy, and at my age, nowhere as flexible as I used to be, so ample workroom is a plus. Also, given that I don't want to go in there a second time, I'll most likely do the "bwm" while I'm in there. The video made the install fairly straightforward and relatively simple. Hopefully the "bwm" is equally simple.
