Default After LMC5 installed< got "pull key, wait 10 sec"

'98 coupe 90,000 miles

Just got the car 3 weeks ago. After reading on here I just installed the LMC5 module 2 days ago. Just got home from the bank after I got the dreaded "pull key and wait 10 sec" warning. Car cut off fuel over 2 miles per hour. Is this separate from what the LMC5 is supposed to fix? I must have been confused as I thought it fixed the fuel cutoff too. I have a week old battery in the car.
Can anyone help me out in my thinking?
Thank you.

I've received this message a couple times too even with my LCM5.

1) You will receive this message due to a battery that is low on voltage. Optimal battery will have 12.7-12.9v anything under that and it could trigger several errors including the Pull Key message.

2) Not all BCMs are created equal and the LCM5 has had a few updates. There is the "brown wire mod" that you may need to perform. This didn't exist when I bought mine so I do not have any more information but 87Vette or Bill Curlee should chime in with more details

Edit: Per Compliance Parts website
Q. I still get the service column lock or pull key messages, and/or the fuel shuts off at 2 MPH.

A. The most common reason for these is a low or failing battery. If you experience these problems, charge, test and/or replace the battery as necessary. In rare cases, you may have to briefly remove the battery negative cable to reset the vehicle computers. If these problems still occur or are intermittent, you may need to have the vehicle's electrical system and/or BCM checked.

According to the instructions, and only going by memory cause I'm not home, I didn't think I needed to do the brown wire mod at the time of install. Fuel hadn't shut off on me before. When I get home I'll get the instructions out and do the brown wire mod. Thanks so much for all your help!

I am almost certain that Richard recommends doing the brown wire now on all installs ????

I just bought and installed an LMC5 within the last couple weeks and while there was a reference to the brown wire for "future capability" the directions did not say to do anything with it. Bought it straight from Compliance parts website.

May very well and I missed the darn thing. It's the instructions on page two in the box right? Could've swore I read that. Ah well, I'll do it when I get home.

That's what I thought but don't have the instructions with me. Thank you.

After hearing all the horror stories on here about the steering wheel locking and the "pull key" message, I prophylactically installed the LMC5 3 1/2 years ago when I got my car. A month or so after that I first got the "pull key" message and the engine shutoff, and had to go back and do the "brown wire mod". I spoke to Richard at Compliance Parts and he was extremely helpful with advice just to make sure all was well. I haven't had any problems since then and don't even think about this anymore until one of these threads comes up again. My advice, like 8VETTE7 says, is to do it when you're first in there, It's easier than going back a second time, like deja vu all over again, and it solves/prevents this problem.

Just got done doing the "brown wire mod" as suggested and all went fine. I did call Richard just to be sure I was actually supposed to cut the looped brown wire and he was just as helpful as everyone on here claims. A true expert in customer service.

Many, many, many posts about the "Pull key...." message after the LMC5 install. It doesn't hurt to do the install so why be hasseled with the Pull Key.... message when you can avoid it and then have to be in the passenger foot well only once. Maybe you teeny boopers can squeeze in there to work but those of us long retired old people don't want to be there more than once...
Although I did not do the brown wire mod and have not had to deal with the PULL KEY message I may have to someday... should've just got it out of the way

I had no issues with service column message or pull key wait 10 sec. I installed the LMC5 anyway, no issues for over a month, now I am getting the service column lock and pull key wait 10 sec. The message is a pain, but what really sucks is the 2 mph cutoff.
Anyway I called Compliance parts, left messages, emailed, still no response from anyone. I may need the brown wire mo, but why did this work for several weeks without the brown wire mod ?

I don't see the brown wire mod instructions on my sheet. Could someone copy and paste them on this thread please. I'm getting the pull key every so often.

Btw I'm colorblind and didn't do the LMC5 install myself for obvious reasons. So I'll probably have an issue with the brown wire also ?

If your LMC5 has the brown wire it will be a loop and not just an individual wire. If no brown wire loop I suggest you contact Compliance Parts and discuss your situation........
Thanks 8VETTE7, I just reread all my paperwork from Compliance Parts and there isn't any mention of a brown wire etc. I didn't do the install so I don't even know if it had 5 wires but I doubt it. Probably will call them.

I recommended the LMC5 to a friend with a 2003 anniversary model. He did the brown wire mod.

Now he is getting the pull key wait 10 seconds message. I feel bad because I recommended the LMC5. Especially since I did the CLB to mine. The CLB has worked flawlessly, never giving a like of problems.

To me, the LMC5 is junk, and is harder to install as well.

Not the case at all. There are pages after pages of LMC5 Vette owners problems. Do a search, I did.

https://www.google.com/search?q=5+af...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Yet the CLB has no such problems. It just works, year after year. LMC5 better have good support, because their product is inferior junk.
