Default Stabbing torque tube

Any one else have issues stabbing the torque tube into the clutch/pilot?

I tried with the trans bolted up and couldn't get it closer than 3 inches. Then I removed the TT and got it in almost all the way, about an inch from flush. Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can get some bolts started and push in the clutch to try to align everything better.

I'm guessing the pressing clutch trick will work with our style of TOB?

You should install the torque tube first then add the transmission+diff then the rear cradle. Also I would'nt force it in thats how you damage the pilot bearing and also damage the spline. It should easily slide in try a different angle this depends how the motor is resting did you put a stand beneath it? I would get another person or set up a jack to relieve some weight of the TT. But don't force it in nothing ever good comes from doing that...

I have a little saying I developed over time. "The harder something goes together the sooner you'll be taking it back apart". Something is not aligned up. Everything has to be on the same plane when it all goes together.

I lined everything up with an old shafts. Then put the whole thing in together, Trans diff, torque tube and rear cradle

I've done this a couple times now, always fully assembled; sometimes it goes in easy, sometimes it doesn't. Last time wasn't one of the easy times. We kept at it, repeatedly changing the angle of the engine (jack under the oil pan helps) and drivetrain to try to get them perfect. It looked like it should go in, but kept hanging up just slightly too far away to get a bolt started. The answer, after a lot of frustration, turned out to be having my buddy lay on his back and kick the rear differential with his boot. The sudden impact of kicking did what no amount of pushing or pulling would do.

Jut my experience, hope it helps. Good luck.

I'm about ready to push it off a cliff or light it on fire. Oh wait it dosnt roll and I don't want to burn my house down ****.

I got it to about 1/4 of an inch away so I figured it was in the pilot (not damaged) and used a bolt to pull it in. This was by hand mind you and it didn't take hardly any force at all. Then I head a pop... hooked up clutch line and it poured fluid. The quick time bellhousing has almost no clearance for the TOB. That is what caught the last 1/4 inch. So time to buy another new one. If that one dosnt Go in I'm going to grind the bell.

You're putting it into a quicktime bellhousing I see your struggle .
A good friend of mines cousin had a similar issue with a 98 c5 procharged, he tried all types of ways to install it, it wouldnt go in. He ended up taking off the quick time and test fitting it on the torque tube while out of car and found it was slightly off. He sent it back and got another one then installed and it went right in. Aftermarket housings sometimes have many different variations. I would take it off and test fit it, that way you're are'nt pulling out your hair, also wouldn't hurt to have a couple ice cold beers on hand.
