Default Accusump

Does anyone have any experience with an Accusump oiling system?

Specifically I'd like to know where you mounted the tank? I'm thinking of mounting it to the hardbar behind the seats, but then there's a lot of plumbing needed.

What have you guys done?

Thank you!

Jeff

My 3 quart Accusump is mounted in the driver's side fender adjacent to the firewall. I'm using a manual shutoff valve, which is easily accessed in this location, and have installed a more easily read pressure gauge,

As Marco mentioned, the common location for a 3qt is the drivers fender. I'm using the pressure controlled electronic valve and wired a switch to the interior of the car with super bright LED that get triggered when the EPC valve opens. I also remotely located the pressure gauge and schrader valve. Here are some of my install photos.

Some questions for you guys -

What did the install cost? Or, if you did it yourself, how long did it take you?

Why did you choose the switches you did? I feel like wiring it to the ignition makes a lot of sense, so it stores pressure when the car is off and immediately helps oil the engine as soon as you turn the car on.

I installed mine in the space in front of the radiator and accessed the front left oil galley. Works fine.

I went with the manual valve because I don't trust electrical units. I usually close the valve at the end of a run with the engine pressurizing the Accusump with 50 psi or more. I then open the valve to prelube the engine just before firing it up.

Did you fabricate the block that mounts the pressure gauge and schrader valve or can it be purchased somewhere? What size AN hose/fittings are you using to go to the remote pressure block?

I'm gathering the parts to install an Accusump in my car and really like your remote setup.

The multi-port block came from Summit. I made the bracket to hold the pressure gauge, bracket to hold the valve, and inner fender plate.

I also added diodes to block the back emf that occurs when switching large inductive loads like the solenoid valve and a relay switched from inside the car. The switch has a power light and I added a super-bright white LED that turns on when the sump dumps.

There are many different ways of putting it together. I used a straight adapter fitting at the front oil galley plug and went to a 45° AN. That frigg'n AN connector was a nightmare. I don't know if all the brands are the same but I could not tighten the AN without it rotating the 45 away from the position I wanted. I tried assembling dry and lubed. The swivel on the AN fitting is at the back side where the hose connect. It really needs to be at the front side before the 45.

Heres my parts list ....

Awesome! Thanks a bunch!

Right now I'm thinking about "T"ing off of my oil cooler return line. I just got the fender off yesterday and will start looking around to see what clearances I have and what else I need to disassemble.

I ordered the 35-40 lb EPC valve and I like the idea of an indicator for when the system dumps. Not being an EE, I don't really understand the statement "... to block the back emf that occurs when switching large inductive loads like the solenoid valve and a relay switched from inside the car." Do you have any pictures? Canton sells an indicator LED (PN 24-295), would it serve the same purpose. I'll have to get one of my EE friends at work to explain it to me.

Now thats funny! Back when I did it, Canton told me you can't use an LED indicator because it would pop. I explained to them about back EMF and how to resolve (I have all the emails). I even sent them o-scope traces that I measured off their valve as well as the reduction with diodes.

Sounds like you taught them how to make their LED light kit, lol!

Ah, no big deal. Its not like it was a big secret to make it work, just a clamping diode across the solenoid. Should increase the life of the pressure switch as well. Dropped the inductive kickback from >300v to less than 1.

The back EMF was over 300V? I can see how that might blow the LED.

I took auto shop in high school not electronics so all this talk of diodes makes my eyes glaze over. If I was to purchase one of the Canton LEDs is there a way to tell if they incorporated a diode into the unit? Ohm meter maybe?
