Have a highly modded '99. 408 iron block, tranny, rearend, nitrous, Owned for about 14 mo's.
has 145k on the odometer, but about 7k on all the mod's,
Happened twice last 8 mo's. Stalls when put in drive, not reverse
Restart about 10 times, then everything ok. No different codes.
Everything else works except gas guage. Anyone help???
What is the idle speed set at, both in park/neutral and in drive? Does this happen at any particular outdoor temperature and does this occur on cold start or warm start? It might need a bit more air added to the idle mixture to keep it running properly. There are a lot of variables that can affect proper idle.
Symptom of a C5 stalling when put into gear sounds like the Column Lock 2mph fuel shutoff. Usually you get a "Pull key..." or Service Column Lock and/or column lock related DTC's set if it is column lock related..
I didn't see anything new on the DIC. Next time (if) I will pull the key and move the steering wheel back and forth.
Happened 2x in 14 mos.
Thanks for the input
If you have ANY DTCs, it is IMPORTANT to list them. I would CLEAR them and then see what comes back and work with those DTCs..
Bill
I did clear clear the codes that I always get
As I said , this Vette has been modded front to back
This has only happened 2x in 14 mo's.
Thanks for the input.

Idle speed in neutral about 1000, in drive about 850-900
Both times temp was approx. 80, warm start
First time in South Florida after being teched in @ PBIR Jan/16
2nd time, last week @ the supermarket near Buffalo, NY
Nothing different shows on the dash.
A/F is set @ about 12.5-12.7
Thanks for ur input
It sounds like the idle speed is set high just to keep the engine running at idle. The engine would probably benefit from adding more air to the mix when idling and only at idle. I would not change A/F ratios because that changes everything at all speeds and in all gears. You want to just crack the throttle plate open a little more at idle giving more air to the engine when idling. You'll need hptuners, efilive, a GM Tech2 or have a tuner make the adjustment. Idle speed can then be set back to around 700 RPM's or so and the car will be much more civilized to drive.
