Default Pushrod Measurement Help

Setup is Morel 5206s, Trickflow 235 heads, Ls9 0.051 head gaskets, Jesel 1.75 sportsman rocker arms.

I hear Morels are 0.050 taller than stock and the TFS 235 deck is 0.100 taller than stock.

I put #1 at TDC, installed the pushrod checker, and tightened down the rockers on the pedestal hand tight. I did this until I had zero play in the rocker arm. At 7 4/16 I had play, at 7 5/16 I had zero play. I did this 5-10 times and got the same measurements.

7 5/16 = 7.3125
Add preload of 0.030-0.050
= 7.3425-7.3625
This leads me to go with 7.3500.

I was expecting around 7.4500 so these numbers threw me off a bit.
Has anyone had a similar setup to mine?

Thanks

Don't recall which Morel lifters I bought as it was a number of years ago. I did find they were quieter towards the top of the preload range, i.e., 0.050". Your other option is to go with larger OD pushrods and get the length you want rather than be restricted to increments of 0.050". I wouldn't run 5/16" OD pushrods though.

You also need to set the rocker wipe pattern prior to measuring for pushrods.

Aren't the Jesel Sportsman rockers adjustable?

I run mine at .070 preload. IIRC, total plunger travel on the Morel 5206s is .135 (~)

........
If not 3/8", then 11/32" at a minimum.

Your measurements are pretty rough. You really need to have a set of eight inch dial calipers to measure pushrods accurately. 1/16" is a huge range when PR lengths are generally measured in thousandths of an inch. If you want the engine to run at it's max capacity, you'll need more accurate measurements.

Thanks guys. I agree that I need a dial caliper to feel better about my measurements.
