Default Throttle body and MAF

I have a late '01 C5. I have added Blackwing intake, high volume air duct, long tube headers and Mid America performance exhaust. I am considerng adding an 80mm throttle body and a Granatelli 2001-Z-06 MAF. I can't do both this year. My question is: what should be done first, 80mm TB or MAF. Any thoughts on potential HP increase if any. Thanx.

Default Re: Throttle body and MAF (radstoy)

Skip both and spend your money on professional tuning on a dyno with widebands and LS1-edit or similar.

If you can't resist the mod fever this is my opinion:
The MAF are the biggest waste of money. You already have a large diameter MAF in your car. The only thing a different 3:rd party MAF does is to fool the PCM about the amount of air entering the engine, sometimes it gives som hp sometimes you loose hp depending on how much off your tuning was from the beginning.

The 80mm throttlebody may add a few hp but remember the input diameter in to the manifold are still the same. Some have reported a quicker throttle response because of the larger throttle blade. If you decide to do something about the throttle body get a ported stock throttle body instead. I run 586hp with a ported stock throttle body, Z06 carbon airbridge, 2002 stock MAF and Blackwing airintake.
