I have a persistent engine oil leak on my 2000 C5, with 155,000 miles. I added the UV dye but to be honest its really tough to track it back to one single area like I was hoping. The oil leak does appears to be starting at the front of the oil pan. Common? The main pan looks easy as can be to remove and replace the gasket. What needed to do the front? Looks like a pain. However I do have a lift in my garage.
At that mileage, Im surprised that you don't have a bad harmonic balancer...
YES,,, It is a common issue. The damper seal scars the damper sealing surface and the leak oils up the entire under side of the engine and car!
Mine died at 45,000.. Looked like I had a MAJOR engine issue.

While you have the front cover off, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you change the timing chain and the oil pump! You will also need a new damper. I recommend POWERBOND/DAYCO.
