Anyone have this problem. Its a sticky goo coming out of the top. Also can these tops be easily changed out or dies it require an upholstry shop?

How long have you owned your car?
I am going to venture a guess that someone put some kind of glue or adhesive in there. Maybe between the rubber molding and the convertible frame. My vert leaks where those 2 pieces of molding come together. A real nuisance for sure.
Back to your issue - I recall seeing some posts on here about how there is an official tech memo from GM to deal with this leak that involved putting double stick tape between the molding and metal frame.
As for installing a new top yourself - there are some good posts on here about that. But the Vette-only specialty shop where I bought mine (owned by a former NCRS judge who does restorations) said replacing those tops is a craft and is best left to specialists. He didn't even want to mess with them.
Good luck!!

Don't know what that goo is! Yes, it requires a professional to change a C5 convert. top.

I don't have that with my top, looks like some uncontrolled adhesive, shouldn't be a big deal to correct, if so.

I once replaced a very basic top , one layer of material , unlike the vette top. I made a mental note at the time to never try that at home again.

It was not a super high skill task, but a lot of work to get it attached correctly. So much so that I issued a life long ban on me doing the work.
