"Smart use of my time" very true! As much as I love to finish a project now days that I am older and other things on my mind I can think of a dozen other things I would rather be doing than working on the car, although I do still enjoy working on cars, I never have the time I had when I was younger. Just finished fixing temp display on vette because it was very dim, read on corvette forum how and what to do. Will say it took me about 2 hours but felt so good when I was done. Great feeling to have accomplished that, to me that is more difficult than dropping an exhaust in. Now each time I get in the car I look at the temp display and its a great feeling, as was when I fixed the gear indicator and marker bulb. Will most likely end up doing exhaust myself but was just wondering if there are any common pitfalls I should look out for. All of which were listed above, Thank you all!
When I changed exhaust on 91 Vette I read here also that I will need to raise rear significant amount to remove exhaust with out cutting. I ended up cutting old pipes off with mufflers and didn't have to raise rear of car that much. Job took 1.5 hrs and replaced with muffler delete pipes because I wanted a loud Vette. That was a mistake! Turned out to be too loud in the city as was on highway.
so another dumb question, I just want to know I am able to do this once I start, because car is my daily driver. Since I will be cutting off old exhaust, will I be ok with a sawzall of better off with a grinding wheel? Better to take rear wheels off? Will I be ok with 2 floor jacks and 4 regular automotive jack stands? Have considered flowmaster since I had on my mustang and liked the sound. Not sure what to get for the Vette? But open to any suggestions since they are all about equally priced, had a 91 Vette prior to this 2002, I put muffler delet on the 91 and that turned out to be too loud! So on the 2002 want only a little louder than stock and easy to install but I think ease of install should be all after market exhaust? Since none are one piece like factory.
Please reply with any comments or suggestions, this has been very helpful Thanks all!!
It sounds like our Force II Axle-back system (part #817517 ) might be just what you were looking for. Our Force II kit for the 97-04 Corvette produces a moderately aggressive exterior and mild to moderate interior sound level. This system is a simple bolt-on installation that can be accomplished at home with basic hand tools. If you have any questions, give us a call at 707-544-4761.
I just replaced my stock C5 exhaust with Corsa and x pipe, and I love it. It's quieter at normal driving and has an overall sweet/strong/musical note at any speed. But more to the point of this thread...I suggest you buy a used Z06 titanium for around $400 on here, and pay $100 to a professional reputable muffler shop to install it. It's simple, it's a nice upgrade, and it's $400-$800 less than buying something like what I got.
