Unable to find in search, Planning to replace stock mufflers on 2002 Auto C5, Not planning to keep stock mufflers and pipes since mufflers are rusted out, Planning to do this job in driveway with jacks and jack stands and ramps. My question is will I need to raise the rear much to put in new cat back exhaust? From what I have been reading I only need to raise 3ft if I want to save stock pipes and mufflers? Am guessing job should be pretty straight forward once old exhaust is outa the way?
Thanks for reading, and thanks for all and any replies!!
I got 30" (for header install) with large truck axle stands... was a push. If the new axle back is a bolt together unit where you don't need the crazy height, just cut off the old rusty units.
One member here backed up over a truck ramp; great idea. Could loosen all at home with minimal height and do this if you can get access to one.
Thanks for replies! yes, old has to be cut off very rusty beginning to crack open from rust, so I figured if I just cut off hight shouldn't be a problem? Since I see new units do bolt together

YES
Cut the old over the axle bends and the old stuff will drop right out!
Thanks again for all replies, so once I have the old muffler/pipes out it should be some what simple install shouldn't have to worry about raising vette 3ft to get the new cat back system on? Also could anyone recommend a good not to expensive cat back replacement?

T H A N K S ! !
Any of the aftermarket systems that I've looked at have a separate over the axle pipes and mufflers. Installation is much easier than removal of the stock one piece mufflers.
An important consideration regardless of price is whether the system drones at highway cruising speed. Also will you be installing a X pipe?
There are many exhaust threads in the archives. Read up on the different systems. Corsa makes some nice systems but there are many others to chose from.
The least expensive way to go is probably the Stock Z06 titanium catback. If you want it a little louder you can look around for a Z06 titanium system that has the bypass mod done.
Thanks! when you say Z06 titanium system that has the bypass mod would that be similar to the stock exhaust, meaning one piece?
Yes the Z06 titanium catback would be one piece muffler and over the axle pipe. It is what came stock on the Z06. You can find used systems for around $350-400. The Z06 catback with bypass mod is a stock z06 catback that has a piece of titanium tubing welded between the inlet and outlet tubes on the muffler. Do a search you will find threads on it.

If you go with the Z06 Ti mufflers you will probably need to get a lot more than 3 feet of clearance. Or else find a loading dock where you can hang the butt of the car out over the end.
so another dumb question, I just want to know I am able to do this once I start, because car is my daily driver. Since I will be cutting off old exhaust, will I be ok with a sawzall of better off with a grinding wheel? Better to take rear wheels off? Will I be ok with 2 floor jacks and 4 regular automotive jack stands? Have considered flowmaster since I had on my mustang and liked the sound. Not sure what to get for the Vette? But open to any suggestions since they are all about equally priced, had a 91 Vette prior to this 2002, I put muffler delet on the 91 and that turned out to be too loud! So on the 2002 want only a little louder than stock and easy to install but I think ease of install should be all after market exhaust? Since none are one piece like factory.
Please reply with any comments or suggestions, this has been very helpful Thanks all!!
Any time I've used a sawzall it was a PITA because the exhaust system is suspended on rubber hangers. The blade would get caught in the pipe and shake the crap out of it instead of cutting it.
I like the Corsa systems or B&B PRTs because they use noise canceling technology to eliminate drone.
B&B is Billy Boat Exhaust Systems. PRT stands for purge resonance technology and is one of the exhaust styles they sell.
I never had to cut a C5 exhaust so I can't say for sure.
Thanks, I should be ok with floor jacks and jack stands to cut off old rusty stock exhaust and bolt on new after market cat back will use cutoff grinding wheel to cut old exhaust off.

Probably... but I bet a good exhaust shop will do it all for under $100, that's a lot of non-fun type of work to save not much $ IMO.

I found an independent exhaust shop (in Orlando) that did removal of my non-Z06 exhaust and install of my used TI exhaust for less than $100.
As i get older I get smarter about which jobs to tackle on my own.
Good luck!
I think anywhere else in this country that's a true statement, but here in NJ all shops in area charge arm and leg for anything, also most shops will not do the work unless they buy the parts, because they make $$ on the parts too, I would love to have some one else do it because it will make it much easier, but I kinda prefer doing work myself so I know its done right, also like getting back into wrenching around on my cars. If anyone can recommend a shop in central NJ I would give them a call see how much they charge. I have notice the older I get the lazier I get too!

To me it's not about lazy, it's about smart use of my time as Sam Handwich noted (imagine having a last name Handwich and your parents call you Sam ). It's about what my time is worth and if I would enjoy the particular project.
If it were stored for winter, maybe (but unlikely). Otherwise I'd farm this out even at $200- $300 TBH.
