Forum- i have a 2003 Z06 with 60,000 miles on it. approximately 1500 miles ago I changed the differential fluid with amsoil and added the amsoil additive. Lately I've been noticing a thud sound (thud thud thud thud) whenever I'm in reverse and today it started doing it while moving forward. Is it possible I need to add more? I filled it until it started overflowing and then did figure eights and refilled.
You will ONLY have differential clutch action when the car is in a TURN. The tighter the turn, the more the clutches need to slip to allow the inner wheel to turn slower than the outer wheel.
Going STRAIGHT, you should NEVER hear or have issues with the clutches.
JACK the rear of the car and put on stands and allow the drive train to run in first gear and see if you can pin point the noise.
thanks for the reply Bill. I was just reading on another thread about a whomp whomp whomp sound. Turned out to be a wheel bearing issue. I'll take the car out tomorrow and have the wife record it and then upload. I just bought C6 shocks and planned on replacing sway bar end links and bushings. I guess I'll have to figure out which wheel bearing and add that to the list.
