Greetings, I have an 02 with 67000 miles, that has a slight knock when cold. Goes away when it's warmed up. I'm not too worried, because I've had quite a few 5.3s with a similar knock, and I have a 69 C10 with a 307, that knocks also, when cold. This is the first 350 that's had the knock. Just curious, if it may be common for the C5? Thanks for all replies, Phil.
Thanks granty, the first 5.3 I had, that knocked, I ask the dealer, they didn't knock why, and they said a lot of do, some do for more than 200000 miles.

If you're hearing piston slap while cold, this is apparently very common. I don't quite know what to listen for - I want to say mine doesn't really make that noise - but it makes other noises that are apparently also common. So many of us just go "meh it's fine" until either we swap the engine or some components for more performance, or something breaks (often due to somewhat questionable performance mods...), or until the car is sold or otherwise disposed of.

Aluminum block, sleeves, pistons... very slight loose tolerance until motor is warm.
