Do a search and you'll find that your EBCM needs to be rebuilt. The topic has been covered countless times.

My key message was "Do a search"...

C1214 is not an unusual code to come up, and there are countless threads on it. I refer you to that same thread where the first response is from a well-known C5 Tech contributor:

"The 1214 DTC usually isn't the result of a dirty ground but, if its compromised bad enough the RELAY inside the EBTCM was most likely running under voltage and that could have been causing the 1214 DTC.

Keep an eye on the issue and if it returns, you should remove the module and repair the relay that causes this issue or repair the printed circuit solder joints that are sometimes cracked. If you don't do circuit repairs, send it to ABS FIXER. "

Have searched previously, but I only have this issue after the car has sat for a few days and not been used, clears up after first drive. I am thinking I should check battery, although I do use a battery tender for a few hours when ever I go into the garage. I wait until battery is fully charged according to battery tender, then disconnect. Don't feel comfortable leaving battery tender plugged in with no one around.

Yesterday when I started the car after sitting for 4 days got this error, just out of curiosity I used a jumper from batt (-) to grounding point on right side behind headlight on frame, left it connected went in car and noticed error message was gone, shut down and restarted with jumper in place and no error message. Usually error only clears itself if I drive the car down the block. Will check and clean ground points under hood tonight.

Lets see what happens?!

Thanks for all replies, all very helpful!

If it's only after the car has sat for a few days you very possibly have a weak battery. I used to get the "pull key..." message whenever I didn't drive my car for a few days without the tender hooked up (I got a new battery yesterday).
1; how old is the battery and what is build date? 2; what is RC rating? 3; have it load tested regardless (or if it's older than say 4 years and/or under 110RC or so, I'd replace it anyway, but that's me). All just my opinion.
Also just my opinion, hooking up a battery tender for a few hours is somewhat pointless, it's just a "maintainer"; very low output.

Think I should check the batt when I get home, how can I check the build date on a die hard gold batt? For the first 20 min car is started DIC shows volts @14.1 after that volts drop as low as 13.2-13.5 although I think that just means my alt is working?!

When you say "pull key..." message? what is that don't think I have seen that yet?

When using the car and only sits over night never get the c1214 code, but when car sits for a few days code always comes up guess that sounds like a batt. al though car starts fine after sitting for a few days?

Sorry bout that, its a 2002 C5 auto convertible with 62k miles

I have to check the batt when I get home because I wonder if this would explain the starting issue I been having?! has happened 3x in the past 2 months, when I get the no start I wait about 15 min and then I was good to go all 3x. While trying to start several times in between those 15 min. After that its fine?! Regardless I think the batt. might be at fault.

Thank you once more for you reply!
