I drive my '98 locally most of the time with a lot of stopping and starting, some highway. I noticed today that my average fuel mileage is only 14.8 miles/gallon! The car seems to run fine. It has 27,600 miles on it and I don't think the plugs have ever been changed. Do you think this is what might be hurting the mileage? Can you think of other items that might improve my mileage?
The gas filter and air filter have been changed, oil has been changed, and fuel injectors have been cleaned.

Thanks![/QUOTE]
That's what i get around town. On the highway avg. speed 80 mph I get 28 mpg.
Been thinking the same thing.
I have reset the MPG AVG on every fill up, and can only get 14.5 at best.
I drive light stop and go routine for about 10 miles each way. I have a route that I drive that only has me stop maybe 5 times door to door, Mon-Fri.
Also resetting Trip A and doing a compare with the gas receipt. It's 14.5 on paper too.
Searched and looked at some older threads and it appears most users are averaging about 17-19 in city and high 20's hwy.
I too was thinking about new plugs/wires. I replaced air filter as soon as I bought the vehicle (1 month ago.)
I drive fairly conservatively, heck even try to use the CAGS.
I use to get 10-15 mpg when I first got the vette from the newly found lead foot. As I relearned to ease off the gas pedal, I hit the high teens for city driving - not bad at all for a 5.7l V-8 engine.
I was looking through you signature. It's the floor mats. I took mine out and now I ger 18.9 around town and 27 on the highway. Changed from 2.73 to 3.42 and gas mileage didn't change. Now I use OD. Seriously, reset the odometer each time you fill up as previously stated. You'll see an increase.

What the heck?
Oh... oh... that was humor... I get it.
But thanks for the OD reset tip. I'll give it a try.
