Never a clunk like I expected after researching failed mounts online. One mount got to metal on metal (inner cage). They had to be bad for awhile but only recently started vibrating.
The way to tell is rocking the engine by hand. I did this awhile ago, but didn't have any comparison... now I do.

So basically you had something similar to solid mounts once the rubber let go? Hmm, never heard of such a thing. Learn something new every day I guess.
I suppose I could say I have something similar. I just put in poly suspension bushings, and they tend to transmit a lot of road/engine noise into the cabin as well. With them though it's easy to tell what's causing it.
Did your shifter move substantially? I would think you'd notice it in that when the TT moved.
Thinking back likely more drivetrain movement but not very obvious. Not solid at all, mounts have inner cage 2 metal links hooked together inside the rubber but with lots of play once rubber gone.
