Default High Altitude Clutch Problem

I have a friend with a '99 and on 2 separate occasions and years apart had clutch problems at high altitude. I believe it started when they were maybe around 8,000 ft. By the time they made Rocky Mtn National Park he had virtually no clutch pedal. As they descended it came back. He has owned this car for over 10 years and has never had any clutch issues except these 2 high altitude events.

My 1st thought is somebody dumped the wrong fluid in the system and it is boiling at high altitude. I run Dot 5 in my '65 and it has warnings about high altitude.

Any suggestions?

I live at 8500 feet elevation (within half mile of RMNP) and my '03 6 speed clutch behaves the same in Boulder 5000-ish feet elevation) as up at 9k.

I think there is a problem with your friends car

After further research on the subject, best I can figure it needs to be drained and replaced every 2 yrs.

I would go a lot sooner then that unless you have a remote bleed system installed..I flush mine out every other month and it's always black

That will cause issues - I do it every couple weeks and it needs it.

Would be doing Ranger method every 1000miles and full flush with remote bleeder every 2k. That fluid gets dark fast.
