I have a friend with a '99 and on 2 separate occasions and years apart had clutch problems at high altitude. I believe it started when they were maybe around 8,000 ft. By the time they made Rocky Mtn National Park he had virtually no clutch pedal. As they descended it came back. He has owned this car for over 10 years and has never had any clutch issues except these 2 high altitude events.
My 1st thought is somebody dumped the wrong fluid in the system and it is boiling at high altitude. I run Dot 5 in my '65 and it has warnings about high altitude.
