This actually kills two birds with one stone. Not only will this fix the strange sounds I was getting...but since it's evap-based I'll bet you a ton that it is also the root cause for the P0440 codes I have been getting all of a sudden lately...I thought I needed a new gas cap!

I would assume it would be safe to drive until I get a new part, correct? Or should I let it sit because of the fuel vapors getting expelled into the engine compartment? I honestly haven't smelled any gas the whole time I was trying to figure this out...

yep if you have a code for an evap leak that could definitely be the cause... you can drive the car as you normally would, it won't harm anything... you can also replace it with a piece of vacuum hose if you wanted to
