The right tool is important in this case. Don't cheap out on the quality of the tool you buy. I picked up a Crane valve spring tool and it worked perfectly. That can't be said of a lot of tools out there.

This is what I used and made the job simple. 5 minutes for each cylinder if even that.

unless you are gonna do a bunch of these just borrow one from someone. maybe buy them lunch or some beer because being in Chicago there are plenty of ls guys that have these.
