I'm not an expert by any stretch but if it were me I would start by checking the battery. Take it to an auto parts store and have it load checked. If it is good charge the battery. These cars are very sensitive to voltage and behave like they are possessed if not fully charged. Check voltage across the terminals and don't rely on the dash gages to determine voltage. My guess is the battery is faulty. Try keeping the battery on a trickle charger when it's not being driven. Good luck

If the voltage is less than 13 then the car can start acting up. They seem to have a somewhat high parasitic battery drain while sitting. If it is going to sit for more than a week at a time then a battery tender is a good investment. I have an Optima gel-cell that I'm not a big fan of because it is slow to charge, even from the alternator while driving.
