Default P0706 loose shift cable?

So my DIC shows a code of P0706 for Transmission range sensor circuit/performance or basically the PCM has no idea what gear the car is in/ i.e the beautiful park/neutral switch mounted on the transmission driver side.

I have a strong feeling the shifter cable needs adjustment because when i put the tranny in reverse, my reverse lights do not come on unless I go into neutral for a second then drive then back to reverse.
It has no problem in any gear I can shift into all of them and the car starts without a problem.

My question is is there any adjustments you can do to the cable? Any of my TH350 or 400 cars you can manually adjust the cable and had the switch mounted to the shifter itself not the damn transmission.

I know I can replace the switch but seeing how GM put wonderful glue on the connectors I am not ready to break it off and then have to go and buy another part to "align" it properly.

Yes I am looking for an easy answer before I sigh to myself and bite the bullet. The wonderful web has nothing on adjusting our cables, only flat out replacing them and if it isn't broken, don't fix it.

Thanks for any insight on this.
