Default Are all 2001 clusters HUD enabled??

I just bought a 2001 ZO6 and want to down the road to add HUD. the car does not have it. it's a basic ZO6 w/ 1SA package option. I just added a Twilight sensor (did not have one). I would like to add TPMS at some point also. That I understand is a programmable feature.

My question is, are all ZO6 clusters HUD able ( meaning can I add HUD without changing the cluster?) Is the enable a Tech tool programming or is it a different cluster all together?)
I know I will need a HUD projector, HUD switch, wire harness and bezel.
Is that all I need?
If the cluster has to be a HUD cluster is there a part number or some way to know if my cluster IS HUD able?

By the way I LOVE the car!!!! Its awesome!! WOW!!
I had an '09 supercharged 500HP Challenger, but I LOVE THIS CAR MORE!!!
As always THANKS for all the help this forum provides!!

Don

Have you driven a car with HUD? I'd make sure you really like it before that undertaking. Personally, meh. Never use it.

As long a I don't have to buy a new cluster, the other parts used are pretty reasonable, $200-250 total. I like working on the car and I would at least like to have the option of having it.

I just need to make sure my cluster can have HUD added. Otherwise I would not

Thanks all..

Yep, your 2001 cluster is HUD-enabled. No programming needed -- just plug in the projector to the connector on the top of the cluster. The HUD switch is also plug-and-play as long as you've got the 11-wire harness.

The 11 wire harness is not included with the projector fwiw. You'll have to make that.

Pins are on .100 centers, very common connectors in electronics. They are keyed, but you don't 'have' to use keys, just make damn sure you get them on right if it comes to that. labels are your friend.

I sorta cheated, I used 2 of the harnesses for the non-hud setup, I think they might have been 7 pins each. I made a new setup where I took the connector to the belt sander and ground off the pins I didn't need so that the two made up an 11 pin arrangement. I had looked on Newark to find the proper connectors but discovered life is too short for that and just rigged it up with the other cables. I have lots of other cables without the keys, but I wanted to get 'just' the right connector. Good luck.

If you find that harness isn't in your car let me know and I'll get you the pinouts and pics I have at work. They might help.

The project isn't bad at all and I can't believe folks here don't like it. I love mine and will not be without it again.

If I can find pics of the way I did my cutout I'll post them. (Got to remember to look first) I have that stuff at work and I am really happy with the way mine came out. I'd say happier than the stock ones I've seen. I got mine from Gene Culley for $ similar to what you said above. Nice stuff. Brand new hud and all parts, made for a great install.

Good luck!

Apples and oranges. The OP isn't looking to do what you did. He's doing an "add-on", not a conversion.
He only needs 4 things: projector, bezel, switch and 11-pin harness which btw, was never available as a separate item from GM but does come up from time to time on Ebay.

I get your point , but I'm saying he might be better off buying everything in one shot. My conversion cost $100 after all was done. That beats buying a $59 wire, $60 switch, $50 bezel, $200 HUD.

Just did a quick ebay search. They have a complete cluster and HUD starting bid $100. No bids yet and it closes in 2 days. People are asking $125 just for the switch.

Not sure what you're calling a "complete cluster", but I hope you're not talking about this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/C5-Corvette-...RYEL6i&vxp=mtr

It's all fine and dandy except for one thing: No "wire" (as you call it).
Btw, a switch is not a major problem finding (either new or used) but the 11-pin cable is critical and very rarely available as a separate item at a reasonable price. No cable, no HUD, unless you make your own. Easier said than done.

The HUD switch and wire harness are half the cost of a NEW HUD projector LIST price from Chevy. $59. + $59. = $118., HUD list is now just $269.!
I'm going to get a HUD harness and shop the parts and make up some to sell REASONABLY!

What's all this about making harnesses?

I took all the parts off a donor car and put them on my car. No problem. Took longer to get the dash pad out than anything.
