Default Weather Stripping Adhesive Question

I replaced weather stripping the runs along the rear of the roof and down the sides today. After installing I noticed I can easily pull the top area out of the grooves. I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this? And would it be safe to put some of the 3M adhesive on the top section to help hold it down? My fear is that the weatherstripping will come loose driving with the top off. Everything looks flush, but doesn't seem secured enough. My first thought was maybe I didn't pull it tight enough, but the screw holes lined up perfectly and I used a GM replacement part. I'm hoping this is normal or can be solved with adhesive so I don't have to do it all again.

karc, I can't look at my car because it is in storage now so I will take a guess...

I am not sure how that weatherstrip is held on. Depending on how it is held in, some of them have metal inside. For example, we had an F250 truck and the door weatherstrip was always coming off. So I pinched it really hard and it held and never came off again as it has metal inside to grip the pinch weld it was attached to.

If it doesn't have metal in it, then yes, I would use weatherstrip adhesive. In the bodyshop we would use 3m products. Not sure which ones to recommend now but if you Google 3M 08008 it will be what you are looking for.

Also, if you want to maintain all the weatherstripping on your car, look up GM 10953014. It will keep your weatherstrip soft, and it won't "stick" when you open doors etc so less wear on the rubber. It also slightly expands the weatherstrip so it seals slightly better - good for older weatherstripping that has shrunk a bit. but def not a miracle fix.
