Replacing tires on my 2001 Coupe. Based on so many comments I've read on the forum about dropping the Run Flats, local guy suggests the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ as good choice. I never use car in rain or snow, just pleasure use on nice days(senior guy). I respect the advice and experience from people on this forum...always appreciated. Is this good selection and way to go?

Pilot A/S are IMO an excellent all weather tire - especially in the wet or on very cold roads - even in a couple inches of snow.
But if you will pretty much always be on dry roads, they would not be my choice. The regular Pilot Sport would be a good place to start looking; most people here have their preferences. Any decent brand of summer tire will give your C5 more grip than you can safely use on the public highway.

Thanks for the input. Seems Tire Rack shows either Pilot Super Sport or Pilot Sport A/S 3+ as Michelin choices for 01 corvette. True I drive in clement weather only, but do occasionally take it out on winter days when temps may be colder. Tire Rack guy suggested the A/S's. What do you think?
Last set of tires I had where Michelin A/S, great tires, quiet, smooth, terrific mileage, I don't see a downside with having the AS+ regardless that you only drive in clement weather.... Good luck...

Must I replace the TPMS units when I replace the tires?. I have no issues with them now.

Depends on when last replaced. I think they have a coin battery in them (search might turn something up) but regardless, if you don't change tires often like me then this is a good time to either update batteries if you can or replace them. Otherwise when the batteries do go, you have to remove the wheels again.
I also looked around for a tire place that guaranteed me they wouldn't scratch the barrels of the wheels. Once place did a number on my BMW wheels and I won't go there again.

2001 Coupe, tpms never been replaced, still have original tires. No battery is what Ive been told. I just didn't plan on replacing these, getting new Michelins now. I'm dubious about where to buy these. If age is factor don't want to be buying some old product. Dealer would probably charge allot!

It's the lazy man's way to do it, the tires arrive mounted and balanced, with TPMS sensors installed, ready to bolt on.

Talked with my dealer service people this morning about this. They told me if I'm not having issues with the tpms just leave alone. I have 2001, the module doesn't have a "shelf life", if working leave alone. Unless damaged when tire being replaced.

I would disagree.
Your sensors are almost 16 years old and could die at any time. If they do you will have to pay to have your tires unmounted, sensors installed, rebalanced, and remounted.
I would buy new sensors and have them installed when you buy your tires.

Agree 100% - experience of many here supports this - at 16 years you are on borrowed time. You can put new sensors on now or replace them later when the dismounting, sensor changing, mounting, rebalancing, etc., will cost you $$$.
p.s. the dealer will also tell you there is no scheduled interval for manual tranny fluid change, but, boy, does it improve shifting when you do change it.

Just to add my thoughts. I installed the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ back in early September. I removed the Goodyear run flats that I had on the car. Since the install I have put about 1,500 miles on them and I can honestly say they have changed the car. The ride quality is a vast improvement and it actually is quieter! Now, I just have to deal with my too noisy Borla exhaust!

Magnetic senders that communicate thru the abs. No batteries in these. If working ok and not damaged when tires replaced, leave alone. Mine are 16 years old and work perfectly. Tires now replaced and work perfectly. So we'll see. Right now perfect.

Well I'm at 16 + years and no issues. What I've been told is if they(2001 2004) are working then leave alone. Its earlier C5's, 1997 - 2000 that require servicing. Article doesn't seem to delineate these differences. I don't know about C6's, not really my concern. We'll see what happens.
