New to Corvette ownership and forum. Have read everything on this site and others but can't find a discussion describing this particular problem.
Bought C5 three weeks ago and AC worked when it was hot. Weather turned cold and when I tried to turn on the heat, no heat on either side. Checked codes and received the following:
B0361 Left Actuator Feedback Short to GND B0363 Left Actuator Feedback Open
B0365 Right Actuator Feedback Short to GND
B0367 Right Actuator Feedback Open
B0441 Left Actuator Out of Range.
Can't remember specifically but I thin the B0441 was the only code showing current. Tried pulling fuse 27 under passenger kick panel, waited two minutes, and reinserted. Heard a spinning or turning sound like something was trying to reset but it would never stop until I turned off the key. Reset codes again and this time, only have the first four codes showing as historical and the B0441 code is no longer displayed. Read something on a C6 post about a shaft disconnect but not sure if that has any relevance to the C5. Hate to start taking this apart (especially anything on the passenger side) without knowing what is happening. Thanks.
Tried again. The actuators just continue to cycle for several minutes and never stop. Tried multiple times with and without AC on. Clear codes and they continue to return.
It's got to be the actuators or the head unit. I'd pull the dash and watch the actuators work. That will get you to the bottom of this the quickest. Unless you have access to another known good head unit, or other members have better info.
You would need to replace both the actuators. The HVAC controller is not the issue since you hear the actuators cycling. You will need 2 Dormant 604-106.
The complete dash pad will need to be removed to replace both. It should take about 90 min or so to get out. It does take 2 people to lift out. If you have a targa coupe or convertible, take off the top it will make it easier to get out. There are some hidden and tough to get to bolts in the glove box. Both A pillar trim covers need to come out and under the defroster grill there are 2 bolts. Most of the bolts are 7mm. You will also need a 10mm socket and T15 torx driver. The actuators are held in place with 2 7/32 bolts. The passenger side will require some extensions and swivels to get to. On the drivers side it will be fairly strait forward.
If you are in Southern California and want help with this let me know.
i had same failure. The plastic gear in the actuators had split allowing the gear to spin on the aluminum shaft. The new actuator gears were a one piece plastic molding including the shaft. Maybe the one piece design will last longer than the 2 piece press spline fit. I purchased canary (cheep cheep) actuators for about $30 each on an auction site. My most important purchase was a set of shop manuals. Following directions allowed my inexperienced self to have an operational HVAC.
Thanks for your help. Seemed logical that spinning was the actuators trying to operate doors but a gear or something was broken and the door lever wasn't moving to enable the calibration. Will order actuators and report when completed. Thanks again.
