Hey guys I need some input from you guys . On sundays at the track they have a streetlegal series . no slicks allowed . dragradials allowed .no traction compound
I want to see what my vette will do but dont want to abuse it too much .
yeah I know right racing and not abusing in 1 sentence . but I want to know how sensitive certain parts are . engine mods are ms4 cam long tube headers . full exhaust . cold air intake . mail order tune by texas speed. recently replaced my clutch with a ls7 clutch (500miles ago ). new TT couplers 10mm bolts (couplers are stock type from RPM transmission) . tires will be toyo TQ 275/40/17 . my dragrace experience is running 7secs on a turbo hayabusa motorcycle at 180mph .
Can I just go out tomorrow and have some fun without causing major damage ??????
Hahaha no Novas . Some badass camaros running 11s but maybe 1 or 2 . The rest running between 12 to 14 sec.
There are no road course on the Island . Dragstrip is all we got .
You can minimize the chances or breaking something.
Or you can see what the car will do.
Sadly, you cannot do both at the same time...
If you want to avoid breaking, then you'll have to go easy on the launch. And don't hit 2nd when you mean to hit 4th. Other than that, you should be good.
What are the first things to break ? What are the weak links . I did the clutch job myself and I am not looking forward to lowering that whole cradle again . Ahahahaha . But to only drive it around town (no highways here ) is also boring .
I wonder how many of them have been down the track 200+ Times.
Yes, wheel hop is an issue. Probably the #1 issue that breaks parts in a relatively stock C5.
That said, you should feel comfortable going to the track and ripping of some fun times down the track.
As mentioned, if you experience any wheel hop at all, abort the pass.
The real weakest links are the half shafts, and the output shafts inside the diff. Both can be replace by a reasonably capable, mechanically inclined individual.
Read Ranger's tutorial. Do not dump the clutch. Slip the clutch just a little bit and once the clutch starts to engage, add throttle and release the clutch simutainiously with an aggressive movement.
I've used the TQ many years ago with good success. 18psi or so should be your starting point. No less than 17. Run as much pressure as the track will hold.
We have very similar set ups. Im running an ms4 cam, headers etc. Curious to see how your car runs. Im still on stock clutch and was loojing at the ls7 upgrade. Car only has 25k miles. I want to do clutch and tranny upgrade at the same time.

Bummer, getting a new road course built in todays market is a tough deal. Beef up the rear end and go have fun.
