After 1059 days as a CF member and reading hundreds of posts on everyone's success with their own H/C packages, I finally broke down, ordered one myself, and now it's here! :D
I'll be putting in Katech Stage II heads with their Stage III cam, ported throttle body, timing chain, gears and valvetrain upgrade.
My question to all you 6-speed guys with a similar set-up is did you get your car dyno tuned right away? If not, after you did later, how much more power did you pick up?
Anyone recommend a shop near New Orleans that can tune the computer after the install?
Thanks alot. I'll post results when completed. :chevy
Congratulations!! I've got the Katech package as well, though mine came with programming (Katech dyno tuned that package, and sent me the program). It's not perfect, but it's about 90% of the way there. I'm actually planning a dyno tune session soon to get it exactly right. I think you'll definitely want to do some kind of tuning right away, particularly with that cam! Otherwise the car may run like crap and you're not going to see the performance improvement.
I went from 309rwhp with just Blackwing and Corsa's to 419rwhp after installing the Katech package, using their standard program. I should be somewhere between 430 - 440 rwhp after the dyno tune. And the car is very drivable - a mild lope at idle, but no trouble at all. Can sit in heavy traffic with the air on without a problem, no trouble driving at low speed around town, etc.
Re: Katech Heads and Cam Here!!!!!! (Chris Lemoine)
Guys-
Thanks for the advice and compliments. I see that tuning is a definite, now.
Chris-
I'll talk to Darren and see his status, or maybe I'll look into Thunder. Houston is kind of far, but LGM had an interesting idea of dropping the caroff and taking Southwest back. We'll see. Mike P. will be helping with the install - without a garage, I don't think its wise to tackle this job in the middle of hurricane season! ;)
