Morning y'all, this afternoon I plan to remove my stock cat back exhaust and replace it with a slp kit. I'm an ASE master tech so I'm not too concerned about tackling this. However my question is, since I will be doing this on my garage floor without a hoist will I be able to remove the stock set up without cutting it? I'd imagine the rear of the car will need to lifted a good deal to accomplish this. I'm hoping my large floor jack can do this. Any thoughts? Inputs? Thanks a bunch and I hope you all had a blessed Christmas
I never remember who, but someone here posted one other way around this. Back it up so the rear is hanging over a loading ramp. That said, you'll have to find such a ramp and be allowed to use it.
If you have a base model exhaust and the SLP system doesn't need much height to install, then yep; cut the factory unit up.
If you are removing a system worth something, just let an exhaust shop do this job if you don't have access to a lift.

Not without putting your life at risk, do you suppose your life is worth it. Maybe I'm asking the wrong person, ask your wife and kids...

After having this done at a muffler shop and watching the work, I am sure that hanging the rear over a loading ramp would work. I just couldn't figure out where to go to use a ramp.
You have to get it up high, but I don't think it was 36". I did it several years ago. I remember having to put the front tires on some 2x10's (one or two) otherwise the front of the car would touch the ground.
I got everything unbolted before lifting (pipes, hangers, swaybar) and lifted until I could get them out (one side came out easier than the other). You can do that from behind the car so you're not doing more than reaching under while its tilted. Of course, block under the tires and use jackstands.
I installed Corsa's (inlet pipe is separate from the muffler) so the car didn't need to be up high to install.
thanks for the input guys. I ended up cutting the oem system out and the slp install was a breeze. I was hesistant about ruining the factory system but after the slp install, I will never go back. very impressed with the new kit. thanks again!
Unless you had the C5 ZO6 Ti muffler system, you didn't ruin much. As stated by 8VETTE7,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, " If it were me I would cut the OEM system as you can't even give those away. "
Not many people are looking for Stock C5 muffler stuff

Sad, but true. I wish I could get some $$ for the set of OEM mufflers I have that is just sucking up space.
I had a lift to do mine, but would not attempt it with jack stands if I wanted to keep the stock exhaust.
I kept my stock exhaust and there is no market for them. I saved it and glad I did because I put it back on when I sold the car. That was the only reason for keeping the stock parts.

Smart move on the OEM removal, especially without a lift. Enjoy the new sound from your car.
