Default Any Ideas!!

Hello folks! just looking for some thoughts on what is happening since I had new Micro polished LS1 Rockers, BTR dual valve springs .660 lift, new valve seals and keepers.

Since the replacement of these parts, which I figured I would upgrade due to running a Maggie on otherwise a stock setup as far as the cam and lower end goes.

Issue I have is after each cruise now my back bumper area is packed full of black specs which looks like a mix of maybe oil or carbon, and the exhaust tips have the black crap all over them also.

30k mile original motor , Headers, hi flow cats, B&B Bullets , MP112 Maggie and all the other supporting mods such as cooling, intake etc.

Any Ideas, Thnks

EXACTLY what I was thinking. Same sort of results when people add performance parts and the engine AFRs goes RICH. Were they the same ratio as the old rockers?

Check your AFRs and Long Term Fuel Trims and see if they went out of whack. Could be as simple as a broken vacuum line or but you have to check.

The rockers are the same ratio, as far as the AFRs, the vehicle runs the same as before, has had a rich fuel smell from the day I purchased it, I know I need it tuned, was waiting to take it out to Andy at A&A and do a cam swap at the same time, just waiting for the cash flow.

Its a shame there is no competent tune her in Vegas to do it locally, as far as any vacuum leaks I have gone over everything and have not seen any possible candidates for leaks, I would think the performance or the idle would be a little rough, which I have not noticed.

I think bottom line I need to get er Tuned.

Thanks

According to Magna Charger, the system on this vehicle when installed required the previous owner to send the computer back to them (the later versions came with a Microchips hand held tuner in the kit), and they so called tuned it to their specs with the required Lingenfelter upgraded fuel pump and electronic boost a pump, which all has been installed correctly, (actually the previous owner did a very good /clean install job of the complete system).

Update: while I was just typing this post I took a break and started reading the Magna Charger manual, and went to the garage popped the hood and started following diagrams just to do a double take.

Upon further investigation there is a vacuum tube that comes off of the fuel manifold on the drivers side (kind of a aluminum T looking block that goes into the fuel rail O ring, where the main 2 braided fuel lines attach too, well there is a vacuum tube that comes off of that and goes to the intake tube before the throttle body, well the tube itself is a very small diameter plastic vacuum tube, but the connector to the fuel manifold has a rubber coupler that connects the two, well the rubber coupler going into the fuel manifold was torn on the bottom side about almost an inch, so Im thinking it got twisted or something when the valve cover was removed during the valve train upgrades (because I did not have this issue before hand). .

I will start and drive it tomorrow time permitting and see if there is a change, hopefully it was as simple as that.

Granted it still needs to be tuned.

I just cant bend over anymore and turn wrenches for more then 5 minutes due to 5 back surgeries, so I try to get quality help from my Corvette buddies and these forums. Bill Curlee has chimed in on a few of my posts and has been very helpful as the rest of you folks, so greatly appreciated.

Have a safe and Blessed New Years, and hopefully this will solve at least this little problem.

Pizzano, Is your Maggie a fairly new model or older model? I have one on my '02 Z that dates back to the year of the car I believe. I am definitely interested in your findings and how the maggie performs for you.

It is the MP112 model ,previous owner purchased and installed in 2012/2013 with 28K miles on the vehicle and all the supporting mods were done at that time also, then I found this beauty this past September in Phoenix area with only 30K miles on , so 2000 miles since all the work was performed.

I had the BTR dual .660 lift valve springs , micro polished rockers and the guides/seals/keepers done in November.

The vacuum leak I recently spoke of in my last post from the fuel rail block to the inlet tube before the Throttle body has been fixed and it runs much better, smooth and no more black crap blowing out of the exhaust.

But I still need to get it tuned and am planning on taking it to Andy at A&A in Cali in the future for a cam. but for now I love it
