base c5 70k miles. car drives well. from time to time it tend to not catch any gear except 4th. randomly the car will not pop out of gear or shift into any other. once this happens the **** feels very wobbly. as if something fell out of place. then suddenly every gear catches fine. it does this once or twice since I don't use the car that much just to work. clutch, pressure plate , master and slave cylinder have been replaced. right before this problems started to happen I noticed a loss in clutch pressure. feeling has been soft lately not too much play when disengaging the clutch. curious to see what responses I get. I appreciate everyone in advance for the feedback.i must add. Right before this happened. I let the bald eagles out in first gear, once I caught enough traction I let the gas out then quickly stepped on it again which gave sort of a whiplash movement.
I would start with aligning the shifter and also make sure the clamp bolt is tight on the shifter shaft. also check the bushing on the shifter plate for wear.
There's a small chance there's an issue with the gears in the trans and that 4th always works because the input and output shafts are locked together and not using any of the gears.
I AGREE!! Start at the shifter / shift box. If the four screws that attach the shifter to the box are loose or the coupler bolt that attaches the box to the shift rod is loose, it will NOT shift correctly. Remove the console and examine the shifter!

all are in ok shape. one thing I noticed as I'm putting everything back together is as im going into all gears waiting for the problem to return is once it stops catching gears is I wiggle around what I believe is the shifter rod and gears start functioning for a brief moment then everything falls out of place. I do not know what that specific part is called. it is what the shifter box connects to going back into the transmission.
