C6 diff parts into C5 diff - new info
"A few years ago there was a post https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...-z06-guts.html
about replacing some of the C5 diff parts with C6 pieces by I think ragtoopws6.
Has anyone done this upgrade and what were your results. Does this make the diff seriously stronger? I have 300M shafts and a 17,000 mile Z06 3.42 C5 diff to install in my base 2003 and am considering this procedure when I install a blower (10PSI, 625 Max Flywheel max). I am on the fence about this as I have no C5 diff knowledge.
Thanks "
Since posting this I have acquired (through a very nice forum member) B] A Hoosier HPE Carbon Clutch Kit [/B]- replaces the standard clutch pack in the Getrag differential. The kit includes frictions, steels, and HD conical springs that are a direct replacement for the OEM clutches.
So I won't be needing the shafts or clutch pac from a C6. But, where does this leave me? I understand that just replacing shafts and clutches does not require a complete tear down and rebuild. I am on a budget so suggestions please with the addition of the shafts and clutch pac I now have do you think the complete tear down is still warranted for the additional C6 parts?
I am still on the fence about this as I have no C5 diff knowledge.
And if you responded to my first thread feel free to jump in again.

So my 17,000 mile, C5, 3.42, Zo6 diff is still in the plan but I only want to upgrade the things that I can do without having to reset ring gear clearances, etc. I now have the Z06 diff, Lingenfelter and DTE 300m long and short shaft and Hoosier carbon fiber clutch pacs.
I would like to install these as well as any other upgrades that will allow me to keep the ring gear intact and not require a complete diff setup. With further searching I have found a post by you that appears to discuss the type refresh I want (capable of) to do.
Here is a copy of your reply to a post:
ABSOFRIGGENLOOTLY!
Here ya go:
1. Your LIMITED SLIP CLUTCHES and the Belieview Clutch Pack Springs are pretty much TOAST! You have the well knon weak C5 output shafts!
The C5 Belieview springs are a widely known weak spot and a serious trouble source. They crack and or break and can dislodge and destroy your spider gears. I BET that yours are cracked!!!
The clutches are more than likely worn out, even though they still work (on a seriously degraded output)
I have a LIST of recommended post to read on this very topic that I will attach later tonight . It discusses installing all new C6 ZO6 output shafts, clutch packs and newly improved Heavy Duty Beleview clutch pack springs.
These improvements can EASILY be accomplished by the Do It Yourselfer and DOES NOT require any special differential alignment/gear set up special equipment stuff!
I also highly recommend purchasing the ECS differential / trans BRACE! I also recommend purchasing and installing the PFADT designed differential mount!
Bill
Could I get a links to the recommended post that you refer to. The ones that "can EASILY be accomplished by the Do It Yourselfer and DOES NOT require any special differential alignment/gear set up special equipment stuff!"
Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance Bill. This would hopefully put a diff newbie on the right track.
