Steering Column (don't lock)
The column does not lock and that is OK for the auto cars as far as I know.
If you have the 6 speed I would install the LMC5 Module from Compliance Parts to be sure.
How do you like your white Vette?
The 01 - 04 C5 automatics had a small diameter lock plate installed as part of factory assembly and therefore the column cannot lock even though the BCM goes through the motions of operating the lock motor locking and unlocking the column each time you insert the key and start the car and remove the key when you park the car. If you listen carefully when you insert the key and just begin to turn the key to the ON position you will hear a soft BZZZZZZT coming from under the plastic covers over the steering column. The 97 - 00 automatics came from the factory with a full diameter lock plate that allowed the column to lock with no key in the ignition. The GM Column Lock Recall Service, which came out in Jan 2004 replaced the full diameter lock plate with a small diameter plate as a part of the service. Manual trans cars from 97 - 2004 all came with the full diameter lock plate from the factory so their columns locked when there was NO KEY in the ignition. After market products (initially the CLB and beginning about 2013 the LMC5) allowed the owners of the early automatics and the manual trans C5's an alternative (not approved of by GM) to having the column lock.
On the White C5's, I always wondered how the GM quality control allowed so many cars to get delivered in primer without being painted.
