Default C5 ODB2 Port

I'm considering buying a GPS tracking unit that is designed to plug into the ODB2 port. I was wondering if the port was already being used by the Heads up Display, or if it is available for another device.

Has anyone done this before? Is there any reason why you wouldn't?

Cheers

Luigi

Should be fine, the open port is below the steering column. Does it just use the OBD2 port for power or other information?

Thanks so much for coming back to me. I think power is the main thing, but at the price point I suspect it also uses the port for speed, revs, harsh acceleration and breaking. I doubt they would use things like accelerometers when they can already get that info from the car.
Ultimately all I want is that if it ever got stolen, I don't want the insurance money, I want my car back I was just wanting to make sure that the HUD wasn't monopolising the ODB2.

not if its the built in/integrated one, no. some aftermarket ones do, but you wouldnt need to ask if that was the case.. it'd be pretty obvious because you'd have to have plugged it in yourself.

The OBD Port should be open and ready for use. Your HUD plugs into the top of the instrument cluster port.
