I'm looking to do heads and cam on a Z06 once I get it (actively car searching but doing my research ahead of time). I'm looking to do H/C/I and with full exhaust.
I plan to be mostly tracking the car at 1/4 mile and some small road course, along with it being a weekend car.
I plan to do 1 7/8 Headers and keeping the stock exhaust for now with the bypass mod. Also, looking at a FAST 102 and matching Throttle Body.
I have been looking into BTR Stage 4 cam with as cast heads that I would get ported. I'm starting to think that the stage 4 cam is a lot of cam for a weekend car that sees the track a decent bit, but also the road course sometimes, but I'm not sure the Stage 3 is a whole lot better.
Does anyone else have recommendations for a cam and heads setup to go with FAST 102 intake with 102mm TB and 1 7/8 headers that'll get me to 450 wheel while still being comfortable on the street?
I'm not afraid of a fairly aggressive cam, but I'd like for it to be balanced all around.
Road course is a different animal and there is a whole big thread on how you should approach that. Your Z06 has pretty good heads that several head manufacturing/porting companies can improve upon and for 450 RWHP, I'd find a FAST 90/92. 1 3/4 headers will handle 450 HP easy enough. I have a BTR Stage III and a custom cam that I had made for my particular needs. I like the custom grind over the BTR. A custom cam doesn't cost a penny more and gets you exactly what you're after.
Also, there are plenty of cars out there that already have the mods you might want & it'd be a whole lot less than buying one and doing the mods yourself.
You can get alot of power out of the stock heads (porting, large valves, deshrouding the chambers, ect...) but you can get more power out of a set of TF215's with the better valve angle, plus you can run a much larger valve with a larger duration camshaft.
I would decide how you want to use the car. For a street setup stock heads will be more than enough. Im also betting you will make more power with the smaller 1 3/4 headers.
Just for comparison, my 2004 Z06 has TF 215 heads, a Tooley Stage III, and LG Pro headers. With the oem intake and TB it put down 422HP at the wheels.
At the time, the tuner said he thought my fuel pump was going out and he was correct. It has subsequently taken a dump. Was there another 28HP in it if the FP were working properly? I doubt it.

That's definitely good to know. I've seen similar numbers to that on stock heads to be honest, but numbers are just numbers in the end.
I'm tempted to go Stage 3 instead of Stage 4 just due to drive-ability, but from what I'm hearing it should be about the same with a good tuner.

Any reason you went stage 3 over 4?
Actually, I was leaning toward the Stage II, but Brian talked me into the Stage III because I had been running an LG5X3. I wish I had gone with either his Stage II or a custom CamMotion cam. The issue with the cams with more overlap is loss of low end grunt and more issues with RPM surge. I spent hours with the guy that did my tune and he just couldn't get rid of the surge at around 1500 RPMs or so. That doesn't seem like a big deal, but driving on the street it can be aggrivating. For a dedicated race car, who cares? But for a car thats is for a combination of uses including pleasure driving, it can turn a really fun car into something less. In some ways, if I had it all to do over again, I'd probably leave the heads alone, leave the cam alone, put some good valve springs and pushrods in, and install a supercharger. By the time you buy heads, cam, lifters, a FAST and TB, you're getting close enough to the cost of the SC kit.
Lingenfelter GTX 12 cam
LS6 Heads
Roller lifters
Racing oil pump
High flow water pump
40# Injectors
Complete Dynatech exhaust
NEW TUNE
This should take care of you.

What are your goals in the quarter mile?
There seems to be a lot of cam packages out there but I do not see many running decent numbers.
LS6 (stroked/forged) 383 Ci
92 Fast
TrickFlow 215's
373 gears
EWP
Hoosiers on Bogarts
1 7/8 ARH (headers) 3" X pipe into stock Z06 Ti. exhaust.
This is my daily driver that I track once a year or so. Was purpose built daily driver to run a 10.50 index/bracket. The car runs 10.50 N/A staged deep in the heat of summer in E-Town. Mid 9's on a 100 shot (9.5X) Idles smooth and strong!!

I would like to be in mid to low 10's, I don't know how doable that is to be honest, but I'd like to find out.
You need to talk to Tony Mamo @ MMS before you do anything.
His projects always impress...
Thanks for that....
So I was tipped off to this thread by another member
I have two products to offer you guys for a 346....both are excellent....one is more affordable than the other but still performs extremely well
My opinion is the MMS 220 is the best cylinder head on the planet right now for a 346....guys are making huge power with that head (its the most expensive)....my MMS 223 head is alot cheaper and honestly doesnt give up much in terms of HP to the 220 (the MMS 223 is partially CNC'ed and hand finished in other areas).
Here are two really good threads highlighting each if your unfamiliar with the product(s). Recently one of my customer made 520 RWHP with my MMS 220 head on a stock 346 shortblock....it had a LLSR and my ported MSD intake that I helped him with.....huge numbers for a 346!
If your car is a corvette and you decide to track your car in the 1/4 mile, please feel free to add your times to the C-5 Quick list located in the performance section to see how you compare.
I am especially looking forward to seeing some track times put up instead of just flow and dyno numbers. Best of luck. BTW, I am in process of re-doing my LS6 on the 98 car with stock Ci. (LS1). I hope to beat my PB of 10.22 with an automatic H/C N/A car. Still keeping up with NJ inspection and enjoying the benefits of a daily driver. :-)
I think I can go single digits with it but, that's just our thinking, maybe next fall. The time slip is the proof you did something right IMHO. The list: Click Here
