I've been looking at the different reviews about shifters and pretty much decided to try the MGW shifter.
I first saw the shifter for $360 and then saw a video of a guy installing an MGW lower box, the shifters on some sites didn't say anything about a lower box being included, just the shifter like everybody else's.
Now I see on MGW's site that the lower box is now included for $360.
I am about ready to order this and was wondering what some of you might think of them and what the actual length and reach for the shifter is in relation to the stock one. I do expect it to require a little more effort but I just hope it's not too much more. The car is not raced.
Love mine. Used MGM **** with shorter shaft. Change the transmission oil and add detent washer. Very preside unit, great workmanship.
I've been thinking about the trans fluid change too. Honestly I don't know what the C5 6 speed uses for fluid yet but It's in the owners manual I'm sure.
Does the trans and the differential share the same fluid or separate. I would think they would be separate but I'm not sure at this point.
I have always liked Amsoil MGL for manuals but since it is actualy thinner than reg. trans oil I don't want to take a chance of it leaking on a non-leaking 66000 mi. car and I don't want have to change seals yet.. But that stuff really makes transmissions shift smooth. Anything Amsoil is good stuff.

Did your shifter come with the lower box too or just the shifter, I'm wondering if the box changes anything even though the add says the new MGW's come with it for $360.

I have the MGW but did not change the lower box.
It is much more precise shifting and a lot shorter throws.
It is also much more effort to shift. It was so much different I thought about removing it. However, I did the anti-venom mod and it made it much easier to shift and took out a lot of the "notchiness" if that is a word. Now I love it. (The anti-venom mod is a 5 minute job to add a washer or two to the detent so the spring resistance is reduced)
I love the MGW shifter and haven't felt the need to do the washer mod to the detent. I have their race **** and swapped the offset for the stick to bias the shifter closer to the dash.
MGW Shifter + Amsoil Torque Drive Fluid + Anti-Venon Mod 1 Washer + Ranger Method Clutch fluid change + 500 miles of break in driving! = Awesome Shifting
That's what I did to mine today other than the clutch fluid but with the new Torque drive and one washer so far I don't feel a bit of difference yet with the still factory shifter, which is fine though. The detent spring had a lot of epoxy sealer looking stuff up in the last threads that by the time I got all that out I think the shim just made up for that space. MGW is out of stock but when it comes in at least I know what's back there now and know it's not hard to work on. I learned a lot about the underneath of these today
That original fluid was so dirty I can't believe they say you never have to change it but I'm sure glad I did

That's a great start. I would definitely start flushing the clutch fluid. If you never checked yours I would imagine its Black. Supposed to be near clear.
There inexpensive things you can do to the stock shifter like checking the alignment and adding polybushings to the stock box. In the end youll want to have the MGW as it covers all this.
my MGW is threaded a few inches, don't have mine all the way down. Have about a inch 1/2 threaded, 1" showing with the lock nuts. Gives a lil extra leverage to help with the stiffness as well
