Driver's Side switch cluster (locks, mirrors and windows)
I've read before that it's a sealed unit, so it can't really be done. If there's another post explaining how to get this guy apart, I haven't seen it, so I'll be making one here.
So, my symptoms:
Driver's side lock switch doesn't register
Driver's side window down button isn't "clicky" but just feels like a mushy nub.
Switch after removal
I have my door panels out right now, so removing the switch was simple, but if you're NOT currently replacing your window regulator, you can stick a screwdriver (gently) between the bottom of the switch and the door and pry up:
You can see the clip you're trying to release here
My switch had some cracks around it, so I'll be gluing these before putting the switch back in, but it's not as if they're load bearing, so no problems.
Cracks aren't a big issue.
The cracks were beneficial though, because I could clearly see that the rubber piece around the switch, which I'm going to call a condom here, is solely glued down. There's no plastic tabs or anything else that were melted into place like some other manufacturers have used in the past
Yellowed glue
So I used a tiny eyeglasses screwdriver to break the seal all the way around
Very small screwdriver
These plastic covers are held in place by the nubs at their corners. Mine were very brittle, but I sort of chipped away at them to get the pieces out. They still hold fine partially chipped away, and they're just covers anyway.
After those are out of the way, you can peel the silicone back to see the contacts underneath.
Silicone pulled back
I took the time to really clean the contacts up, trace the lines to the pins and make sure I was getting continuity across the pins after they were good and cleaned up.
How contacts should look
To reassemble, go in the opposite order, and maybe use a couple drops of glue to hold the condom on.
