In looking at the DIC codes, there are three different PASS-key detection circuit faults.
Does anyone know what the difference in the three is? I am getting a random no start, and the 2723 code. Previously after messing with the remote and the alarm buttons, it has always started within a couple minutes, but now, even after clearing the code, it wont start.
Also has a remote start, so should start without the key even in the ignition, or clutch pushed in, but isnt currently.
Is the key resistance read inside the ignition switch itself, or inside a module somewhere else? I left the battery disconnected for about 15 minutes and it fired right up.
Also, on a side note, both times its happened and did not fire right back up, the car was outside on a very cold day. Could temperature play a part in this, or was that just coincidence?
I would think that if cold weather had anything to do with your problem it would be because the car battery is low and you are actually experiencing code B2722 or B2723 where the reference voltage is low/incorrect.
I would start by having the battery fully charges and then load tested. If necessary replace the battery............ JMHO
how low does the battery need to get in order to affect this circuit?
Also, does that reader come with a new ignition switch?
Just inside the ignition key cylinder are two contact surfaces that the pellet in the key passes across and are read by logic in the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM takes the value that it reads and sends it to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to see if it matches the value stored in the PCM. If there is a match the BCM enables the TDR and the car can be started. If the resistance doesn't match or the expected reference voltage is low then the car is prevented from starting. Here are a couple pics of a damaged pellet reader for a C5:

What is damaged on this reader, can't tell what I am supposed to see in the photos. Can they be cleaned like the rest of the ignition switch?
Thanks
Joel
Thanks for the clarification. Last question for now, does the new key cylinder include this portion? Also couldn't the key pins from the old cylinder be transferred to the new cylinder rather than needing to go to the dealership or even a locksmith?
Going to try some electrical cleaner, that I have around the house.
Thanks,
Joel
