Default New Michelins - what a difference

I just installed the Michelin A/S Pilot Sport ZP's on my 01 Coupe this weekend and what a difference they make over the factory Goodyears. I can tell a noticeable difference in the ride comfort and the quietness.

With 15,000 miles on my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZPs I can say that I would certainly buy them again.

I have been running my tire pressure at 32 psi HOT maximum so as to not again wear out the centers on the rear tires. This works out to about 28 psi COLD so long as one is not traveling in areas where there are extreme temperature or elevation changes.

How accurate is it on the Michelin's recommendation of only 50 miles at 55 mph when flat? I know the Goodyear's recommendation was 200 miles at 55 mph?

nevadacoin,

You should be able to get a set of the Michelins installed, balanced with the stick on weights behind the spokes, with the no deductible warranty for $1500 or so. Right now Michelin is giving away a small Samsonite wheeled carry on bag and an atlas with any set of four tires.

The rear tires may take a week or two to get delivered since they are short on supply nationwide.

I paid $1400 total for tires, installation, and alignment from a local tire shop.

I wonder how they compare to brand new Goodyears? :seeya

If you are considering a non-runflat, you can try the nitto 555's. I have them on all four corners and they rock. Plus they are cheap as performance tires go. $800 for all 4.

Using the same tire pressure, they handle much better. They don't follow the lines/cracks in the road, they don't hop as much on bumps/holes, and wet traction is at least 10x better. I drove through a 1"/hr rainstorm and they were as solid handling as my suburban. Would have been scared to death with the GYs.

They ride much more smoothly, and they're quieter too.

I love 'em!

How accurate is it on the Michelin's recommendation of only 50 miles at 55 mph when flat? I know the Goodyear's recommendation was 200 miles at 55 mph?
I just spoke with the Michelin rep for zero pressure tires. He informs me that the 50 mile driving range was on the earlier zero pressure tires which had sizes in 60 profile available as well as the lower profile tires used on the C5. Higher profile tires will not run as far deflated as the lower profile tires.

The new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZPs are indeed expected to run typically 200 miles, just like the original equipment Goodyear EMTs.

The deflated tire driving does not normally affect the tires repairability unless the extended driving damages the tire in places other than where the original puncture occured.

Again, this information is current as of today and given to me by the man who is responsible for the Michelin ZP tires. I had emailed my questions a few days ago and this rep Mike telephoned me today with the information.
