I just got my car detailed today. It looks great. I officially declare its spring in Oregon. On the way home the heater fan quit working. I removed the fan motor and found a fresh mouse. Looking up I see blue and white fluf blocking the intake. First question, how did the little sucker get in there? Second what on my car did he chew up that's blue and white? If I vacuum what I can see where will the rest blow to? I have a car lift so I put it on the lift, how high can a mouse jump? The fan worked on the bench but not in the car. The fuse is ok. Is changing the resister pack next? It's raining as I write this. It was a great spring while it lasted.
Was the mouse still warm and wiggling? I once found one these bad boys (hard and very dead) laying on my driver’s floor in the SUV. Never did find how it got in.
Mice get in because there are a number of places under the cowling that are not tight enough to keep them out. The cowling covers the windshield wiper motor and wiper arm works.
In 2009, I had mouse nests in the blower wheel twice, separated by about a month. After the second incident, I removed the cowling and used 1/4" hardware screen to screen all the areas I could see under the cowling where a mouse could get in.
Mice can also get in at the openings in the cowling cover at the wiper arm shafts. Putting pure peppermint oil in all the ac ducts about once a week in the winter will help keep them out.
Thanks for all the helpful hints. I'll buy peppermint today, close the air vent on shutdown, look at screening, and keep storing the car on the lift.
I found some vented material at wilco in bags I am going to put in the engine compartment.
Does peppermint oil leave residue?
I've got mouse bait stations all around the car (8). Two are getting chewed on. The humane society will probably be after me for cruelty to mice.
No mouse pictures. I was just hoping someone would reconize on our cars what would chew up to white and blue fluf.
Lucky you found it when you did. Once they build their nest and have babys in it that **** smells terrible afterwards for a good while. My old truck gets them in it
They run on the wheel to help keep the battery charged.
You can purchase a new mouse an any pet shop.
LMFAO! That made my entire week worth it!
Here is my mouse Nest!
The enter the HVAC through the fresh air channel under the windshield cowl and make a nest in the HVAC FAN.
Here is where the fresh air enters under the cowl:
Under the metal plate is the FRESH AIR inlet hole:
Here is the MOUSE.. It was ALIVE before it expierenced FULL FAN SPEED! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Its little feet were hanging out of the fan blades and were making a CLICKING NOISE as the fan coasted to a stop! LOL!
This is what it made a nest with on my car. HVAC Suction Line insulation:
