I have just about given up on my 2000 C5. I bought it in 02 with 15K miles on it. I now have 68K. Over the years I have put 4 batteries in it and spent about $2000 on electrical issues.
The last time I had it in they found corrosion on a connector(not a ground) fixed that and all seemed to be will. I store the car over the winter in an unheated garage. If I do not run the vette once a week the battery will die. I tried to start it yesterday and it was dead. So dead that it will not take a charge. These are problems I have had since day one so I do not think they are corrosion issues.
Just thought I would toss this to you folks before I spend another $150 on a battery. Thanks
It sure seems you have put a lot of batteries in your C5. Having a 1999 C5 myself, I've not had the same experience. I have to ask if in the 1st 15K miles (before you owned the car), could your Vette have been involved in a flood or had any other water damage? Also, I see you live in the Buffalo area and having lived in the Cleveland area for a number of years myself with the extreme Winters, I remember going through more electrical issues (batteries included) in my vehicles including a C4 Vette. It brings to mind all that corrosive road salt that seems to get into everything until the Spring rains wash it off the roads and out of the air. Could your local "environment" be contributing to your Vette's issues? These are just some thoughts and might have no bearing on your particular situation.
Good luck and keep us posted on how things work out.
these cars kill batteries if they sit unused. Common knowledge. Get a Battery Tender.
I have a battery charger that I use. As soon as the battery if fully charged it switches to a trickle charge. I hate leaving the thing running in the garage with the vette and my wifes Jag in there. I guess I am one of those the glass is half empty guys.
