Default C5 2002 PVC valve replacement

Getting ready to take C5 out of storage, changed oil, filter checking tires, drive belts then I decided to change the pcv valve since its never been done before and car has 60k miles.

I have searched the forums profusely but did not find answer, so please if anyone has had similar trouble let me know your solution. Thanks

Had a bit of trouble removing from rubber boot, once I removed the pcv valve I noticed a metal clip seems to have been inside the rubber boot?? then what appears to be a ground wire attached to metal clip inside the boot. Other end of what appears to be a ground wire is bolted up right below pcv valve with a 10mm nut.

What is the purpose of this? is it just to hold pcv in place. I tore the rubber boot a bit when removing, so when re-assembling I put the metal clip with ground wire attached back into the boot for pcv, inserted new pcv valve then used black tape and wire ties to secure pcv valve in boot and to seal as best I could. Curious if the ground wire and clip are necessary? If not I could fab up a better mounting for pcv with hose that has no tears in it.

Thanks for your time!

It's purpose is to help support the PCV valve.

have been searching all c5 forums and post and have read several times its purpose it to transfer heat to the pcv valve, not sure why you would want to?

I would think it was for dissipation of electrolytic/galvanic activity

I assumed it is grounded to reduce static electricity, being that there may be unburnt fuel in the blow by gasses.

If I find anything annoying it is when people refer to positive crankcase ventilation valves as pvc valve. PVC is plastic pipe for a house

I assumed PVC vs PCV was a red neck typo.

Have some acceptance in life.

With further searching I found a source quoting a GM manual stating the purpose of the wire is to transfer heat to the valve to eliminate condensation build up.

That is the actual reason it was designed that way. It conducts heat/warmth and also provides a bit of support as well.
