Default ?Hood Seals?

I am wondering if a hood seal is a good idea! I live the the Desert and there is tons of fine sand blowing around. I will be installing a Blackwing soon, and would like some input as to if the 15-16 dollars for a hood seal is worth it. Can I expect anything other than a cleaner engine compartment? Meaning is there any performance gains? Thanks in advance! :seeya

I wouldn't want to say that I have any quantitative experience to back my comment up, but at most I wouldn't expect much of anything. 'Maybe' 1 hp? A clean engine is nice, though. The theory is that if the air isn't coming in the hood front gap, it will pull more from the bottom of the car and thus keep a bit more air out fro under the car.

I like mine, it hasn't been any trouble and looks like it should have been there anyway.

You won't gain any horsepower from it and the engine may run a little warmer. But the good thing is that you don't have to worry about any water getting on the Blackwing, which is what I have.

And you don't need to buy one either. Just got to the hardware store and buy some weather stripping with adhesive tape on one side. I think I used 3/8" thick and 3'4" wide and just cut it to fit. Works great. I happened to have some Mag Red paint so I painted mine and it doesn't show as much in the seam.

Hope this helps.

Really no HP gain but does keep water and dirt out of the engine compartment. To me, that is worth the price alone.

There are two types of hood seals for the car on the market, the crappy one and the right one. I purchased the crappy one and it failed at the center and the glue came lose. I hated it so I removed it. While checking out some performance stuff at Carlisle I learned that GM can sell you the same seal tha is on the fenders. The installation is easy and it looks like it belongs as it now matches the two other seals that adorn the sides. I didn't notice any HP gains from it.
