TPMS Delete on a 1998 with Newer 2001-2004 RFA Module
I have a 1998 C5 with wheels that have no TPMS and purchased a new 2001 to 2004 RFA module.
I installed the 2001 to 2004 RFA module on a 2003 C5 and programmed out the TPMS on the RFA module using a GM Tech 2. I then installed it in my 1998 C5 and the DIC does not show the tire pressure screen anymore. I also programmed two 2001-2004 type key FOBs with no issues. However, I still get the DIC error for tire system monitor. I am thinking it is because I still have the 1998 BCM that is expecting a TPMS signal.
Is there any possible way to delete the TPMS on a 1998 without replace the BCM using a similar approach to above?
We finally figured it out. You can delete the TPMS with the 2001-2004 RFA module installed on a 1997-2000 BCM without setting a DTC. Here is the procedure:
1) Find a 2001 to 2003 C5. Convertibles are easiest because the module is accessible without any tools at all.
2) Remove the RFA module from the 2001 to 2003 C5.
3) Install your own 2001 to 2004 RFA module that you intend to install back in you 1997-2000 C5.
4) Remove the TPMS through the Tech 2 by going to the BCM and eliminating TPMS RPO.
5) Next you have to find TPMS DTC. You will see that it has an "*" next to Enable. You must first "deselect" the Enable and then you can select the disable.
6) Take the RFA module you just programed and install in your 1997-2000 C5. The TPMS will not show up on the Gages and a DTC will not set.
7) Verify the settings in the original 2001-2004 vehicle and RFA module are setup properly (no TPMS for Z06 or TPMS for all others, assuming it was stock to begin with).

Thank you for the post. I would like to replicate your experience with eliminating the TPMS on my 99 FRC. If anyone else has experience do this please chime in.
To summarize, I need to find a RFA module from a 01+, then remove the TPMS features using a tech2 while the RFA module is installed on the 01+ car, then I can reinstall on my 99 and the feature is eliminated?
I would like to hear more about this. How many have done this?
My understanding was the option for the TPMS RPO was in the BCM so whatever RFA you have does not matter. I thought like 8VETTE7 said that the BCM on '97 to '00 could not remove the TPMS option.

Please post your experiences with trying this.
I heard the same but my gm tech and I tried it anyway just as described above and it worked. I think the trick is in the dtc screen where you have to first deselect the asterix for enable dtc code for tpms and only then can you select disable dtc code. It will not work if you try to just select disable dtc code while the enable dtc code is selected, which it is by deafault.
It has been running for 2 months with no codes or warnings of tpms. I don't have to clear anything at startup like u had to do previously.

I replaced the bcm in my 99 frc over a year ago. I purchased a used one from an 04. I removed one wire from the bcm plug as it was not used on the 04 bcm and reprogrammed it.

SWEBLD, what specific information are you needing?
So you simply installed the '04 BCM? Which wire needed to be disconnected? Then, what programming steps did you need to go through to disable TPMS. I have a 2000, and would like to do this mod. Only the BCM swap is needed? No swap of RFA module?

One reason I replaced the bcm was that it had been wet and there was corrosion on the board. The dealer wanted @1500.00 for a new one, no reconditioned ones were available at the time. I found a used one for @ 250.00 but did not buy it. So I figured that I would take a chance and try one from a 2001-2004 model year. I purchased a used one for @ 140.00 and proceeded to install it. I purchased the 2004 service manuals to check wiring diagrams and compared them to the 1999 service manual wiring diagrams and found that there was only one wire difference. I removed that wire from the bcm (not sure which wire at this point since it has been over a year ago). I do remember that the wire I removed was a 12 volt source. The wire I removed was taped over on the terminal end then taped back to the harness. I removed the fuse that fed the wire so no other problems would occur. The fuse only fed that one wire. I programmed it by using the key on, key off method. The sds (air bag) module must have had the same number as the light did not stay lit after starting the car. I then used a tech II to reprogram the options (which were few). I did the 2001-2004 rfa module swap at the same time and purchased new key fobs off the auction sight rather inexpensively and programmed it at the same time. You will need to get a pigtail for the newer rfa module as the plug and terminals are different. The tpms did not have to be programmed out, it would have to be programmed in and I have not done this yet. Still contemplating wheels and tires.
I hope this helps and is not too confusing, Steve
