Is it necessary to install a "harness" when installing led lights for drl's, headlights, and rear brake lights for proper system operation?
Yes for the turn signals, if you want to eliminate hyperflashing.
In a C5 the turn signal and hazard functions are provided by the hazard switch. A hyperflash harness replaces the portion that handles the turn signals with a flasher that's LED friendly. Hazards will still hyperflash because that function remains untouched in the OEM hazard switch.

I installed LED halo tail lights on my '03 and the hyper flash harness was required to keep the lights from the rapid blinking. My flashers do not hyperflash when engaged.
