Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone swapped the bose speakers with aftermarket speakers using the stock harness....if so , was a specific aftermarket harness purchased.....if not which of the 8 wires on the oem harness feeds the speakers....I already swapped the h/u but the oem harness were feeding the bose speakers.....I know some of you will ask why not just use new wiring, but the installer informed me that all would work well, but it doesn't ...so if I get the proper information I'll do it myself, I already have the 6.5 speakers and the adaptors for the doors.....Any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks Chris 30
........my question to be more precise is this....on the oem harness to the speakers there are 8 coloured wires....which ones do we use on a speaker that takes only 2 wires.....I don't have an amp yet but my h/u is rated at 50 w and it plenty of power for me...I changed speakers because one of them was rattling when too much bass played on certain type of music....Anyways my exhaust drowns the crap out of everything, it a bit loud....
I had tried many aftermarket so called fixes to install better speakers and even an amp to an existing Bose system--
Bottom line is that it will never work correctly or give you the power you would get with a non Bose system
The front speakers have a built in amp to power them---- the rears use a separate amp that is in the front dash just behind the A/C controls the head unit is flat and has NO power.
I tried all the adapters that were supposed to work--None of them did
The only way to get a kick *** stereo is to bypass/remove all the Bose amps/speakers and also install a new head unit---They make aftermarket 10 or 12" sub boxes that fit nicely in the trunk area----I used a single 10" sub--- 2 new 6" door speakers and 2 new rear I think 5" speakers--- I used a 2 channel amp to run the single 10" sub on one channel and the other 4 speakers on the other channel--
I bought a mid price level complete system-- Sony Explod including the head unit
I sold all the old Bose stuff The head unit--the rear amp and speakers and the front speakers with built in amps----The actual cost difference was not that much--I think I sold all the Bose stuff for about $600 and bought all the Expod stuff for like $800
I ended up with a pounding stereo awesome bass and crystal clear and sharp mids and highs---- for a net price of about $300

To properly replace just the head unit leaving the rest of the system in place you will need an adapter (not just a harness) to provide the required interface. This is due to the way the factory system was designed.
Replacing the head unit should be just plug-and-play by using either one. Both have setup adjustments to customize sound/levels. After tweaking them to your liking, they shouldn't require further touching.
...The front speakers have a built in amp to power them---- the rears use a separate amp that is in the front dash just behind the A/C controls the head unit is flat and has NO power...
The amps for the 4 main channels (LF, RF, LR, RR) are inside the headunit and each one drives a twiddler. The 2 door-mounted amps only drive their corresponding door-mounted 8" subwoofer.
If you want to take this a little further, without a doubt, the easiest and least expensive way to upgrade the system with the more bang for your buck is new speakers that can be bolted on in place of the factory ones, keeping the rest of the system intact.
GCG are there any fitment issues with these jl audio speakers? Thanks.
@Billyjean9999 The only issue that I'm aware of is in relation to installing the 5¼" one (C2-525X) in a Z06. In this specific scenario it's been reported that the speaker's magnet assembly touches the outside skin of the car before its mounting ring could get sit in place.
Two workarounds have been successfully used:
Using a spacer ring
Removing the rubber cover around the speaker's magnet
No other issue that I know of has been reported.
Just to give you more options, check this Post to look at a set of JBL speakers that have received very good feedback. There are also some installation tips to avoid ending up with speakers out of phase and sound cancellation.
Thank you very much. I should have mentioned I have a coupe so I should be ok with the 6.5”. Thanks. I did come across that post about the jbl. Now I’m wondering if the jl audio is worth the extra money.

@GCG do you happen to remember what thread discussed the install of the jl audio 6.5” speakers in the back. I’m trying to install them right now and the holes don’t match up at all. I’m wondering if there is an adaptor plate. Thanks.
